Chapter Seven
Luo Fancheng’s expression remained calm. “I’m a doctor—what could I possibly do to you? Believe it or not, I’m here to save you.” As he spoke, his gaze unconsciously drifted toward Xiao Li on the operating table. Her long legs, slender waist, and graceful curves radiated a mature allure, an undeniable air of authority and elegance. He had been so focused on the acupuncture earlier that he hadn’t noticed.
Eventually, their eyes met. Xiao Li instinctively curled up, shielding her vital parts, never taking her wary gaze off Luo Fancheng, watching his every move.
“How despicable and shameless. If you’re going to lie, at least find a better excuse. Have you ever seen a doctor save someone while wearing a security guard’s uniform?”
Luo Fancheng glanced down at his security attire, spreading his hands in helplessness. “I’ve done what I needed to do. Now that you’re awake, it’s time for me to go.” With that, he turned to leave.
“So you’ve done everything? Then am I…” Xiao Li murmured under her breath, then looked at Luo Fancheng again. “Stop right there, you bastard! You’re utterly shameless. I won’t let you get away with this.”
As she spoke, she reached for her clothes.
“Suit yourself,” Luo Fancheng replied without turning, continuing toward the door. But just as he took two steps, Xiao Li’s cries rang out behind him.
“Help! Help! Help!”
Outside the emergency room, Ouyang Feng heard the commotion and, after a moment’s hesitation, burst through the door.
He stormed in to see Luo Fancheng coming toward him, and then glanced at Xiao Li on the table, her clothes in disarray. His glare toward Luo Fancheng was furious.
“You worthless scum, what did you do to Xiao Li?”
Luo Fancheng was about to reply when Xiao Li weakly called out from the table, “Husband, he took off my clothes.”
“You beast! You animal!” Ouyang Feng’s fists clenched and he lunged at Luo Fancheng’s face.
Luo Fancheng reacted swiftly, stepping back to avoid the blow. “How could I treat her with acupuncture without removing her clothes?”
Ouyang Feng was momentarily speechless, remembering that he had asked Luo Fancheng to come save her. But then a thought crossed his mind: if he could turn the situation against Luo Fancheng and send him to jail, then Chen Xingxin would be his.
So Ouyang Feng accused him, “Still making excuses? You just wanted to take revenge.”
He deliberately emphasized the words ‘take revenge.’
“I’ve told you before: Chen Xingxin and I were classmates. She’s not well, so I visited her out of concern. Who would have thought you’d be so petty? I visit your wife and you come after mine—what kind of animal are you?”
He turned to Xiao Li.
“Don’t be afraid, darling. We’ll call the police and hire the best lawyer. Today, we’ll see this scum thrown in jail.”
Xiao Li nodded from the operating table.
Just as they were about to call the police, the nurse from earlier returned, accompanied by a middle-aged man in a doctor’s coat and several security guards.
“Dad, it was them who forced their way into the emergency room,” the nurse said to the man behind her, pointing at Ouyang Feng and Luo Fancheng.
This man was well known to Bai Chen—the director of the General Department, Wu De, practically a founding figure at the hospital.
“Detain them. Beat them within an inch of their lives before handing them over to the police,” Wu De said coolly.
The security guards, upon entering, were surprised to see that one of their own, Luo Fancheng, was among those to be arrested.
“Luo Fancheng, what are you doing here as a security guard?”
“I came to save someone,” Luo Fancheng replied.
“You? Save someone?”
A chorus of mocking laughter followed from the guards. “You must be out of your mind. A security guard treating patients? Ridiculous.”
Wu De let out a cold laugh. “Ha! I’ve examined that patient myself—she was as good as dead. And you think scum like you could save her?”
“Watch your mouth, old man! Who are you cursing?” Ouyang Feng shouted angrily.
“Cursing? I’m merely stating the facts,” Wu De answered disdainfully. “If a security guard could save her, I might as well resign as director of the General Department.”
He looked toward the operating table, where Xiao Li was now sitting upright, observing the scene.
When Wu De’s gaze met hers, Xiao Li offered a sly smile.
“Sorry, but I’m already well.”
“That’s impossible. Moments ago, you were beyond saving.” Wu De was stunned, then looked at Luo Fancheng. “Did you save her?”
The other guards were equally shocked. Could it be that Luo Fancheng really had saved her?
Everyone turned their attention to Luo Fancheng. A jolt of anxiety shot through him—he’d promised his master not to reveal his skills, and he’d nearly forgotten. Smiling, he explained, “Director Liu Tianji taught me some massage techniques. I simply removed the patient’s clothes and pants for a massage, and somehow she woke up.”
As soon as he finished, Xiao Li’s face flushed with embarrassment, and the word ‘shameless’ flashed through her mind.
Wu De sneered. “So much for a miracle doctor—it was just a blind cat stumbling over a dead mouse.”
The security guards, hearing Luo Fancheng’s explanation and then seeing Xiao Li’s alluring figure, looked at him with open envy and jealousy.
Such luck, and it fell to him. If only it had been one of them.
Ouyang Feng recalled that it was Liu Tianji who had told him to seek out Luo Fancheng. The two clearly knew each other. Just as he suspected, there was no way a useless man like Luo could possess extraordinary medical skills—let alone be the best in Jianglan City. Who would believe it?
“So what if it was a blind cat’s luck?” Luo Fancheng replied coolly. “The patient’s been cured. Shouldn’t you be leaving the hospital as promised?”
“Hmph, you think a lowly security guard can tell me to leave?” Wu De retorted shamelessly. “It’s you who should be leaving. How dare a mere security guard barge into the emergency room and treat a patient without permission? I’ll see to it you’re sent to jail myself.”
Wu De’s laugh was full of self-satisfaction.
Ouyang Feng thought, Since I want Luo Fancheng in jail, why not let someone else do the dirty work? You can’t blame me for this—everyone wants to see you behind bars.
So he chimed in, “I thought your medical skills were something special, but it turns out you just got lucky. Now that I think about it, it’s terrifying. If you hadn’t brought my wife back, her body would have been sullied by a man as foul as you.”
Disheartened, Luo Fancheng realized he had been set up after all. All his time training in the outside world, and still, he couldn’t fathom the darkness in people’s hearts.
Ouyang Feng turned to Wu De. “I support Director Wu’s decision—send him to jail! Scum like him don’t deserve to walk free.”
“Hold on. I think you should honor your promise and leave this hospital immediately. Otherwise, as the daughter of the chairman of Jiangbei Pharmaceuticals, I can see to it you’re banned from this industry altogether,” Xiao Li, silent until now, suddenly declared from the table.
