Chapter 110: The Itsuka Household
With Saeko Busujima and Shiina having returned, Yecheng’s mood improved significantly. At the insistence of Ruoxing and Ruchen, he began to manage the affairs of the conglomerate. According to them, he only needed to handle things for a short period before passing all the responsibilities onto Uncle Fan, allowing Yecheng to return to his own pursuits.
During this time, apart from spending time with Baiji and the others, Yecheng focused on learning how to manage the conglomerate. With his innate capabilities, he progressed rapidly. Coupled with his "Rank A Luck" and a "Golden Rule" that ensured he would never face financial shortages, every favorable factor seemed to align with him. Regardless of the decisions he made or how severely a project had been hemorrhaging money, it would turn a profit the very next day after he took charge.
Meanwhile, his rivals consistently suffered inexplicable losses. Some even attempted to mimic his every move, yet despite replicating the exact same actions, they achieved vastly different, disastrous results.
This situation persisted for nearly half a month. The Star Conglomerate had recovered all its previous losses and was generating massive profits, as if the period of decline had never occurred. Within the conglomerate, Yecheng’s reputation reached its zenith; almost everyone was thoroughly convinced of his leadership.
In the tallest building in the city center, Yecheng stood before a transparent floor-to-ceiling window, bathed in sunlight. Beside him, Saeko Busujima stood guard, her movements precise and still. Having efficiently processed the final document, Yecheng let out a long, relieved sigh.
He had decided on this timeline long ago. His primary goal was never to manage paperwork. He had told Uncle Fan from the start that he would only handle things for a short while. He knew he had always had three goals: to enhance his strength, to find C.C., and to teach the person who caused his current plight a lesson.
Now, a fourth goal had been added: to find Kanade Tachibana. With the influence of the Star Conglomerate, half a month should have been enough to find anyone in the world, yet there was still no word of her.
Baiji sat beside Yecheng, poured him a glass of water, and asked, "Are you worried about little Kanade?"
"Saeko and Shiina have both been found; she is the only one without a trace. Her clumsy nature makes her quite worrying, you know," Yecheng said, taking a sip of water to soothe his dry throat after a busy morning.
"Don't worry, don't worry. Kanade must be fine. Can't you feel that she is safe? As long as you are within a certain distance of each other, you can sense her location, so there's no need to be so anxious!" Baiji hugged him from behind, her doll-like, adorable face rubbing against his cheek; her soft skin felt incredibly comforting.
This was a habit Baiji had maintained since she was a Nine-Tailed Celestial Fox, and even now, she hadn't given it up—or perhaps she simply had no desire to change it. A light knock on the door interrupted them, and after Yecheng gave his permission, the visitors entered.
Uncle Fan walked in alongside a young man in butler’s attire. Yecheng stood up, not surprised, and greeted them. "Uncle Fan, Bunin, I'll leave the rest to you. These past few days have been driving me mad!"
"I understand, Young Master. Leave the rest to us. But are you truly not planning to take more people with you? Bunin is enough to handle these matters, but please, let me accompany you; otherwise, I cannot set my mind at ease." Uncle Fan wasn't surprised by Yecheng’s dislike for management, as Yecheng’s nominal parents had often dumped their responsibilities on him to go off on adventures—eventually leading to their own demise.
Because of this, Uncle Fan insisted on accompanying him for safety. Yecheng and Baiji eventually gave in, leaving Naoyuki Bunin to handle the conglomerate’s documents alone. Bunin expressed no dissatisfaction and promised to do his best.
This Naoyuki Bunin was the same one Yecheng had met in the afterlife world. Originally brain-washed by Xiao Bai into a state of near-fanatical adoration for Yecheng, he had come to this world after finding peace. He had assumed he would never see Yecheng again, only to be adopted by Uncle Fan as a trainee butler. When he discovered his master was Yecheng, he had wept with joy.
Through Bunin's appearance, Yecheng realized that others must also be in this world. He had once asked the System to ensure everyone from the afterlife world was reincarnated into the same world. Thinking about meeting Yuri and the others in the future, he found this world far more interesting.
Leaving the towering building, Yecheng rode in a car with Baiji, Saeko, and Shiina. He wasn't sure of the car's model, only that it was specially designed to withstand rocket-propelled grenade fire. Even with Uncle Fan in the driver's seat, the four of them sat in the back with ample space.
"Young Master, where shall we go now? Are we looking for the girl named Kanade Tachibana?" Uncle Fan asked from the driver's seat, looking troubled. Searching without a destination or any information was extremely difficult.
"Go to the Itsuka residence. With their parents dead, the two young girls must be struggling. If possible, I’d like to adopt them," Yecheng said after a moment of thought. For two underage girls to lose their parents without any relatives to care for them was a disaster. Their situation was, in part, related to Yecheng, so he decided to check on them.
"Quest Triggered: This world contains mysterious lifeforms known as Spirits, which possess immense combat capabilities. Their arrival is accompanied by 'Spacequakes,' special disasters of silver light, though in reality, they are merely pathetic girls. Quest Objective: Save these girls and allow them to live normal lives. Reward: Obtain corresponding abilities. Failure: These girls will face the threat of death."
In a daze, Yecheng received a System quest. The conditions for triggering it seemed strange, but he was certain the two girls at the Itsuka house were related to Spirits. The System wouldn't issue an irrelevant quest without cause, which only strengthened Yecheng's resolve.
With a clear destination, Uncle Fan soon drove to the vicinity of the Itsuka house. Having investigated the area previously when Yecheng’s parents lived nearby, he knew the address well. As the car pulled up, Uncle Fan pointed toward a house.
"Young Master, that is the Itsuka residence!"
No sooner had he spoken than the Itsuka house suddenly erupted into fierce flames, which spread rapidly to the surroundings, as if to ignite a massive fire.
Uncle Fan: "..."
