Chapter 84: The Gray Wolf King Frightened Twice
“This brat!” The Wolf King’s brows furrowed deeply, though his masked face concealed it.
“The enemy is over there!” Xiao Yu’s sharp eyes followed Sikong Xu’s direction, instantly spotting the Wolf King.
“Kill!” Xiao Yu raised his spear and charged straight at the Wolf King. Everyone else was exhausted dealing with the wolf pack, so only Sikong Xu and Xiao Yu were free to confront the Wolf King.
Ah, right—there was also Tian Ming, but… well, his fighting ability was about a five. He didn’t count.
“Sikong Xu, don’t get drawn into a prolonged fight. You two should focus on defending each other.” Suddenly, Ge Nie’s voice echoed from inside the carriage.
His experience was vast; he knew Sikong Xu and Xiao Yu couldn’t possibly kill the Wolf King. It was better for them to cover each other defensively.
“No problem,” Sikong Xu replied, immediately joining up with Xiao Yu.
Now, Ge Nie’s address for him had shifted from “Young Hero Sikong” to simply his name. It seemed he had begun to earn Ge Nie’s trust.
Just then, the Wolf King, who had retreated, suddenly doubled back, launching a surprise attack. His razor-sharp claws lunged straight at Sikong Xu.
“You dare come back? Watch my Celestial Blade!”
Sikong Xu shouted, his sword once more enveloped in a halo of energy. This time, the Wolf King did not retreat; he seemed intent on taking the “Celestial Blade” head-on.
“Hah!”
With a furious cry, Sikong Xu swept his sword horizontally at the leaping Wolf King.
A metallic hum—
The Wolf King’s claws were also coated in true energy. The two forces clashed, their contrasting energies merging and producing a piercing, resonant sound.
Both retreated five steps. Sikong Xu was drenched in sweat, while the Wolf King appeared unfazed.
“Brat, you dare try to intimidate me? This ‘Celestial Blade’ is nothing but a mediocre sword strike!”
At first, the Wolf King had assumed “Celestial Blade” would be difficult to counter, but upon contact, he realized something was off.
The name “Celestial Blade” sounded intimidating, but its power… was less than a routine claw strike imbued with true energy.
“Haha, I’m just making fun of your low intelligence! Xiao Yu!” Sikong Xu mocked the Wolf King, then suddenly shouted.
“Villain, face my spear!”
Xiao Yu leaped high from behind Sikong Xu, gripping his spear in reverse, true energy swirling around it. Clearly, Xiao Yu possessed some real skill.
Descending from above, he drove his spear fiercely at the Wolf King!
“Hmph, such petty tricks!”
Though the Wolf King specialized in assassination and wasn’t strong in direct combat, that comparison was against masters of Quicksand. Even if his head-on skills were lacking, Sikong Xu and Xiao Yu together were no match for him.
Swish!
Facing Xiao Yu’s vertical descent, the Wolf King met him head-on. His claws crossed in a flash, landing several sharp blows on Xiao Yu’s spear.
“Ah!” After the clash, the immense force transmitted through the spear sent Xiao Yu flying. He fell, then was knocked back into the air again, his appearance utterly ridiculous.
“Wow, that’s strong!” Sikong Xu exclaimed.
Xiao Yu was naturally gifted with strength, and falling from above should have given him a great advantage. Yet, he was still sent flying by two strikes from the Wolf King, the disparity in power glaring.
“You dare hurt Xiao Yu? I’ll fight you to the end—take my sword!” Suddenly, Sikong Xu shouted again, adopting a fiercely desperate stance.
The Wolf King, hearing Sikong Xu’s challenge, focused, preparing for his attack.
This kid wasn’t powerful, but his technique was exquisite, and his true energy was pure. If one wasn’t careful, he could land a surprise attack.
So the Wolf King thought—but when he glanced toward Sikong Xu, he saw this shameless fellow was carrying Xiao Yu and fleeing!
“Damn it!” The Wolf King cursed, infuriated. He’d been fooled twice by this brat already! And now he was running toward the crowd, a place the Wolf King couldn’t attack easily.
“Uncle Nie, we can’t beat that guy.” Sikong Xu, holding the wounded Xiao Yu, ran to the center of the crowd and addressed the carriage where Ge Nie sat.
The Wolf King was at least a first-rank Yellow level; for a Black level like Sikong Xu to last this long was already remarkable.
“…” Ge Nie was silent for a moment, as if weighing his options. Then he spoke: “Go draw his attention. I’ll make a move. But with my current injuries, I can’t promise I’ll kill him.”
Ha, that was the phrase Sikong Xu had been waiting for! Hearing Ge Nie would act, he smiled: another part of his side quest could now be completed.
“No problem, I’ll distract him—but he doesn’t seem to approach the crowd.”
“Then take it outside the crowd,” Ge Nie’s voice came again.
“That works.” Sikong Xu agreed, then asked Fan Zeng for a sword. This time, he planned to fight with two blades!
Sweeping his gaze around, Sikong Xu saw the Wolf King had vanished again. With no other choice, Sikong Xu activated “Precise Sense” once more.
Swish—
Closing his eyes, a three-dimensional map of his surroundings appeared in his mind. In a mere second, Sikong Xu locked onto the Wolf King’s location.
“Haha, found you!” Instantly, Sikong Xu leaped high, heading straight for where the Wolf King lurked!
“What? How did he find me?” In matters of concealing himself, the Wolf King considered himself top-tier. Yet, this brat had found him so easily!
“Haha, let’s battle another three hundred rounds!” Dual swords in hand, Sikong Xu soared forward. With “Infinite Martial Refinement” as his freakish ability, dual-wielding was a trivial matter for him.
Swish swish swish!
Landing and stabilizing himself, Sikong Xu unleashed a torrent of slashes at the Wolf King. For a moment, the Wolf King struggled to defend.
Wielding two blades, Sikong Xu’s attack speed increased by a level, and his overall power rose accordingly.
Moreover, it seemed this was the Wolf King’s first time facing an opponent with two swords. Lacking experience, it was only natural he found it hard to counter.
However, as soon as the Wolf King adapted to Sikong Xu’s attack rhythm, the advantage would shift.
Sikong Xu knew this well, so he immediately intensified his assault.
“Haha, watch my Starburst Stream Slash!” A bold, domineering name rolled off Sikong Xu’s tongue.
Truthfully, it was just ordinary dual-blade slashes, covered in sword energy.
Swish swish swish—clang clang clang—
Sikong Xu unleashed over twenty strikes, each met and parried by the Wolf King. Gradually, the Wolf King seemed to adjust to the rhythm of dual-blade attacks.
“Brat, your death is at hand!” Suddenly, a surge of true energy erupted from the Wolf King, its immense force halting Sikong Xu’s relentless slashes.
“Die!” Seizing the moment of Sikong Xu’s pause, the Wolf King hurled his icy, deadly iron claws straight at him.
“Damn!” Sikong Xu instantly sensed danger. The Wolf King’s timing was too perfect!
But someone’s timing was even more precise than the Wolf King’s.
Just as Sikong Xu paused and the Wolf King lunged, a sharp, icy blue arc of sword energy shot from the side, its target—straight at the Wolf King!
