Chapter 1: The Ex-Girlfriend Has Returned
“Grandma, I poked holes in all the condoms.”
“Well done, sweetheart! Put on that dress I gave you. You’re in your ovulation period these days, so give it your all. Once you’re pregnant with Jin Yan’s child, let’s see what tricks that woman can still play!”
“Alright.”
A Li sent the message and hurried to the mirror.
In the reflection, a girl with exquisitely delicate features and skin pale and smooth as porcelain gazed back at her. The black slip dress accentuated every curve of her body; her slender, fair legs were nearly bare up to the thighs, swaying gently in a most provocative way.
This outfit was a bit too revealing. Normally, A Li wouldn’t dare wear it, but the uncle’s ex-girlfriend was coming back from abroad.
Grandma had said that the ex would surely try to get back together with him, and only by getting pregnant with his child as soon as possible could A Li make the ex-girlfriend give up.
“Mr. Lu is back!”
Suddenly, Aunt Liu’s voice rang out from downstairs.
A Li’s heart began to race.
Soon, the door opened.
A strikingly handsome man, whose looks and aura commanded attention, stepped inside.
“Uncle!”
A Li called out nervously.
Lu Jinyan’s dark eyes swirled with unfathomable depths as he took in her attire. “Why are you dressed like that?”
“Do you like it?”
A Li’s cheeks flushed like spring peaches as she asked shyly.
Lu Jinyan gave her his answer through action.
He pressed her down onto the bed, pulling her dress up.
“Uncle, be gentle…”
Contrary to his cold, restrained demeanor, the man became a beast in bed, leaving all manner of suggestive marks on her after every passionate encounter.
“Don’t you like it?”
“I-I do…”
A Li wished he could be gentler. It always hurt, but she wanted him to be satisfied, so she nodded against her true feelings.
When she saw him putting on the condom she had poked holes in, her nerves were stretched to the breaking point.
During ovulation, pregnancy was almost guaranteed.
But just as he was about to enter her,
His phone rang.
It wasn’t his usual ringtone. Lu Jinyan immediately got up to answer.
A bright, gentle woman’s voice came through the phone: “Jinyan, I’m about to land.”
“Weren’t you coming back the day after tomorrow?”
“Plans changed. Can you come pick me up?”
“Alright.”
A Li’s heart gave a jolt. She sat up in bed, watching him get dressed, and couldn’t help but ask tentatively, “Uncle, who are you going to pick up?”
Lu Jinyan didn’t answer.
A Li asked again, “Is it your ex-girlfriend?”
“Don’t call her my ex.”
So it really was her.
A Li was seized by a nameless dread. Like a drowning person grasping at anything, she said, “Will you get back together with her? Grandma says she’s no good. When you had your accident, she left for abroad—she’s not someone who’ll stick with you through hardship…”
“Enough.”
Lu Jinyan cut her off, his expression cool and warning, “You don’t know her. Don’t speak ill of her.”
“But didn’t she abandon you?”
“A Li, gossiping about others behind their backs is disgraceful.”
A Li’s cheeks burned with shame. She knew it was wrong to speak ill of others in their absence, and could only lower her head and apologize, “I’m sorry, Uncle. I was wrong.”
Lu Jinyan said nothing more and left.
“Uncle!”
Watching his figure disappear through the doorway, A Li felt as though she had just been sentenced to death, her heart and soul turning cold.
She was someone who had lost her memory, picked up by Grandma Lu by the sea and taken in by the Lu family.
By rights, someone with such an unclear background had no qualification to marry the Lu family’s heir.
Becoming his wife had been nothing but a twist of fate.
He’d had a car accident and was left disabled; his girlfriend left him to go abroad. One night, drunk, he mistook A Li for his ex and slept with her, leaving him with no choice but to take responsibility.
When his legs hadn’t healed, people mocked her for chasing after wealth, marrying a cripple for money.
When his legs finally healed, they said she was just a powerless orphan and wondered how long she could hold onto the title of Mrs. Lu.
A Li had never cared about such talk.
Because Uncle treated her well. He was disciplined, never flirted with other women.
Though he had an ex-girlfriend he could not forget, even after recovering, he never went looking for her. She thought he had moved on and intended to live well with her.
Until now.
A single phone call from his ex was all it took to pull him away, even at the height of passion.
Only then did A Li realize: Uncle had never truly let go of his ex-girlfriend.
