Chapter 119: From now on, I will not let anyone hurt you.
Seeing that the two did not accept the check, Bian Cheng stepped forward, intending to force it upon them.
However, his gaze accidentally fell upon the chairs and tables wrapped in foam, with every single edge and corner meticulously covered.
A sense of foreboding hit him instantly.
His hand clutching the check trembled, and he looked at them with an expression of disbelief and deep distress.
"Could it be... that even a child..." is on the way?!
Hearing this, Bian Yang immediately covered Tang Yu's ears with both hands, his gaze cold. "Try saying that nonsense one more time!"
In the end, Bian Cheng and his bodyguards were chased out by Bian Yang, who wielded a mop from the bathroom, along with the check.
Staring at the cold, unfeeling door, Bian Cheng paced back and forth in agitation with his hands on his waist, then pounded heavily on the door, demanding the little brat come out and explain himself!
They could argue and bicker, but he would not stand for them making a joke out of the next generation!
Yet, no matter how much he pounded, the door remained shut. The little brat had even called building security to drive them away.
After being kicked out of the apartment complex, Bian Cheng took out his phone and called Qi Mingzhou, who was Bian Yang's uncle.
"When are you coming back to the country?"
The person on the other end sensed his agitation but remained quite calm. "The day after tomorrow. Why?"
"Can you change it to tonight?" Bian Cheng’s tone was solemn.
"Something happened, something big! If you don't come back, you'll only be able to visit your nephew in prison from now on!"
He went on a rant, but still hadn't explained what had actually happened.
Qi Mingzhou continued to ask calmly, "What is going on?"
"I can't control that little brat anymore! He even dared to chase his own father away!"
He sniffed himself; he reeked of the mop.
Qi Mingzhou seemed accustomed to Bian Cheng’s temper. He sipped the red wine at his side, wearily pinched the bridge of his nose under his glasses, and patiently asked again, "Tell me what happened first."
Bian Cheng said in a heavy tone, "He's dating."
"..."
After a few seconds of eerie silence, Qi Mingzhou said softly, "Brother-in-law, A-Yang is an adult; he is allowed to date."
"It's not about whether he's dating or not, it's that..." Bian Cheng looked around warily, and after confirming no one was paying attention, he shielded the phone with his hand and whispered, fearing he might be overheard.
"The girl is a minor! And they are living together! And even..."
His tone grew more and more distressed with each word.
"Even that little girl is pregnant!"
No matter how shocking his words were, as if he were trying to turn the world upside down, Qi Mingzhou remained indifferent, leaning back on his sofa. "Brother-in-law, are you sure? A-Yang is not the type to be so reckless."
"How can I not be sure? I saw it with my own eyes!" Bian Cheng insisted, "They are living in the same room in the same apartment right now! After I exposed them, guess what? He flew into a rage out of shame and kicked me out. You tell me, what kind of situation is this?! If there's a problem, we solve it, right? Since there's a child, don't we have to take responsibility? Tell me, how are two kids like them supposed to take care of an even smaller kid? Does that mean I, the grandfather, have to take care of it?"
Thinking of this, Bian Cheng began to worry. "Diapers have to be bought, the nursery has to be prepared, the delivery room and a confinement nanny have to be arranged in advance. Also, the wedding matters need to be handled. I haven't even met the girl's family yet, and the bride price needs to be discussed."
Thinking about it, there was simply too much to do!
He remained immersed in the sudden, unexpected joy of becoming a grandfather, and finally let out a string of curses.
"That little brat actually did something like this! How will I ever have the face to see anyone again! I, Bian Cheng, have lived an upright and honest life, transparent and with a clear conscience, and now at this age, my reputation has been ruined by this kid!"
Qi Mingzhou: "..."
His brow suddenly throbbed with pain. "Brother-in-law, I will change my flight and come back tomorrow. Please don't be impulsive, and don't get into a conflict with A-Yang."
With the temper both of them had, they were like gunpowder barrels, ready to explode at a touch.
Qi Mingzhou sighed. "Let's wait until I get back to talk about it."
Bian Cheng glanced at the watchful security guards; he knew he couldn't force his way back in, and it was the middle of the night, risking a disturbance of the peace. He had no choice but to agree.
"Fine then, hurry up. The sooner this is resolved, the better. The moment I think about becoming a grandfather, I'm afraid I won't be able to sleep tonight..."
Qi Mingzhou still felt that things were not as he described. After all, others might not know how unreliable his brother-in-law was, but he had experienced it firsthand.
"Don't overthink it," Qi Mingzhou cautioned before hanging up. "Get a good night's sleep, and remember, don't be impulsive."
Bian Cheng, worried and troubled, gave a few perfunctory grunts. After hanging up, he kicked his car in frustration and left with his bodyguards.
—
In the room, Tang Yu turned on the lights, and the room was bathed in brightness once again.
She held the medical kit and sat silently beside Bian Yang. She took out the iodophor, soaked a cotton swab until it turned a deep, tea-like color, and stared at the bruise on the corner of his mouth. Her lips were pressed into a thin line as she carefully applied the medicine.
Seeing her tense expression and downcast mood, Bian Yang let out a deliberate "hiss" while she was applying the ointment.
She immediately stopped her movements, asking nervously, "Did I hurt you?"
He let out a low chuckle, reached out, and ruffled her hair. "Just teasing you. It doesn't hurt at all."
Under normal circumstances, Tang Yu would have glared at him in mock annoyance and told him not to be silly.
But right now, she kept her head down and didn't speak. She replaced the cotton swab with a fresh one, soaked it in iodophor, and continued to apply the medicine with intense focus, her movements very light, terrified of causing him pain.
Gradually, a layer of moisture welled up in her eyes, making Bian Yang's heart tighten.
"What's wrong?" He cupped the young girl's face. The corners of her eyes were reddening, and his heart twisted. "Why are you crying?"
She had originally been able to hold it back, but after Bian Yang said those words, a sob caught in her throat.
"Bian Yang."
Her voice was a bit hoarse. "It must hurt so much, you're even bleeding."
Besides, the person who hit him was none other than his own father; how could it not hurt?
"It's really nothing. Back when I used to go head-to-head with him, things were much worse than this."
Bian Yang said half-jokingly, his thumb gently stroking the skin under her eyes, offering a bit of comfort as he wiped away the dampness.
He attempted to use this method to show that he didn't care at all.
"This wound will be healed in a few days. It doesn't affect eating or drinking. Don't cry; your crying makes me feel more pain than the wound itself."
Tang Yu slowly lifted her eyelashes, her tone muffled. "How could he hit someone?"
Her tone held a hint of self-reproach.
If she had reacted a bit faster, could she have stopped that man, and Bian Yang wouldn't have been hurt?
"Even parents shouldn't just hit people." Her voice was heavy with congestion.
Before her parents divorced, Tang Yu had been hit too.
Back then, she endured it in silence, digested it in silence, and didn't want to shed a single tear, because since she didn't care in her heart, the physical pain felt insignificant.
But seeing Bian Yang get hit was different; it made her feel so distressed that she couldn't control her tears.
"I won't let anyone hurt you again in the future."
She said it in a very soft voice, sounding more like a vow.
Just as he protected her, she wanted to protect Bian Yang as well.
