Bian Yang and the nurse pushed Tang Yu, still unconscious on her hospital bed, into the ward. Qin Mingyu went in the opposite direction to find a doctor, smiling slightly.

“Doctor, I noticed your hospital works with public security. Could you please issue an injury assessment for me?”

Inside the ward, the nurse was about to apply medicine to Tang Yu’s wounds, which meant removing all her clothes. Bian Yang, uneasy, waited outside. The nurse drew a curtain between them, letting him stand just beyond.

Applying medicine inevitably touched the wounds. The unconscious girl instinctively cried out in pain, grasping at whatever she could, murmuring Bian Yang’s name.

Outside, Bian Yang clenched his fists tightly. Unable to bear it any longer, he said to the nurse, “Let me apply the medicine for her.”

The nurse hesitated. “You’re a man. It’s not very convenient…”

“I’m her family. There’s nothing inconvenient about it,” he replied, lips pressed into a cold line. “Besides, I’ve studied professional trauma care. I know how to do it without causing her pain.”

“All right, I’ll handle the areas where it’s not convenient for you, and you can take care of the rest.”

The nurse first treated the bruises on Tang Yu’s chest with ointment. Since her bra and underwear had been removed, she wrapped white cloth around the girl’s chest and private areas, protecting her modesty and leaving the other wounds exposed for treatment.

Bian Yang thanked her, took the ointment, and stepped behind the curtain.

Even though he’d prepared himself mentally, the sight of Tang Yu’s body, covered in bruises and wounds of all sizes, made his eyes redden with fury and sorrow.

He dabbed ointment onto a cotton swab, gently circling each wound. His touch was feather-light; it took a long time, but the medicine gradually seeped in.

Tang Yu’s sleep was restless, haunted perhaps by the terrors of a nightmare. Her fingers dug so tightly into her own palms that she might draw blood.

Afraid she’d hurt herself, Bian Yang massaged her clenched fingers until she relaxed entirely. Then, his cold, pale fingers threaded through hers, interlocking their hands to prevent her from injuring herself again.

He stayed by her side through the night. Fortunately, her blood levels remained stable, with no further bleeding, so surgery wasn’t necessary.

However, in the first half of the night, she was tormented by nightmares, hovering between waking and sleeping. Only when the medication in her IV began to take effect did she finally slip into a deep, peaceful slumber.

Bian Yang carefully dressed her in hospital clothes, then gently brushed through her hair, which had been hacked into a tangled mess.

Her long hair, once reaching her waist, now resembled tattered silk. He gripped the comb tightly, its teeth biting into his palm.

Tears trembled in his bloodshot eyes, falling onto her cheeks.

He was only roused when the girl unconsciously rubbed her cheek against his palm.

Suppressing all the darkness and frenzy inside him, he set the comb on the table, bent down to kiss her forehead, and asked an orderly to watch over her before leaving the ward.

Tang Yu’s clothes were ruined, her underwear stained with blood.

He went to the mall to buy clothes, undergarments, and some daily necessities for her.

When he returned, Qin Mingyu was arriving at the hospital with breakfast, ready to discuss last night’s events.

“They’re at the police station. Uncle Chen is watching them. All six women are unemployed, hanging around your school to intimidate students and extort protection money. They all have records for assault and theft. Tang Yu’s injuries count as minor, not severe. Even with a good lawyer, the most they’ll get is six months. That’s why they’re so brazen—jail is routine for them. After a short stint inside, they’ll be released and continue their old ways. They don’t care at all.”

As he spoke, Qin Mingyu’s fists clenched.

There’s nothing worse than people who fear neither death nor shame. And yet, there’s no way to deal with these social parasites.

Bian Yang’s gaze was as black as ink, stagnant and cold. “Just six months.”

Qin Mingyu said, “Six months is already a long time. Before they go in, we can help Tang Yu get some justice. By the way, they keep saying they attacked Tang Yu because of you, but I don’t believe it.”

“That's bullshit,” Bian Yang replied, lips pressed tight, reaching for a cigarette and biting it between his lips.

Qin Mingyu offered a lighter, but Bian Yang dodged, merely holding the cigarette, his voice calm. “Where are they?”

“You want to see them?”

Bian Yang lowered his gaze, lips curling coldly. “I want to see exactly what kind of trash they are.”

Before leaving, he instructed the orderly to take good care of Tang Yu.

Qin Mingyu drove him to the police station where the six female thugs were being held.

After a night in custody, the women were already causing a commotion.

A police officer explained, “These six are regulars here. In their twenties, dropped out of middle school, their families don’t care about them. When they’re arrested, their families just say lock them up, doesn’t matter. They’ve cut ties, so we can only hold them for a while then let them go. But this time, with you pressing charges and hiring a lawyer, they can actually be detained for six months. That’s the longest yet, and the first real lawsuit against them.”

Filing lawsuits takes time and money, and even if victims win, these people have nothing to compensate with, so most just give up.

The officer led Bian Yang and Qin Mingyu to a room, unlocked the door. Qin Mingyu waited outside, while Bian Yang entered with an officer.

The women pounded the iron bars, shouting obscenities.

One, louder than the rest, spat, “Hey! When are you letting us out?”

Bian Yang’s cold gaze swept over them. Thinking of Tang Yu’s wounds, the blood they’d drawn, all because of these women…

Thinking of Tang Yu curled on the ground, helpless and afraid, probably wondering why he hadn’t come to save her…

The rage in Bian Yang was undisguised.

“So, you don’t know who I am.”

“Should we?” one woman sneered, sizing him up with a lewd whistle. She licked her lip piercing, leaned against the bars with sultry eyes. “Hey, handsome, get us out of here and I’ll sleep with you. How about it?”

She reached out through the bars, beckoning him.

Bian Yang’s gaze was dark and cold.

Suddenly, before the officer could react, the woman screamed in agony as her outstretched hand was bent sharply, bones snapping.

Bian Yang’s other hand seized her throat through the bars, lifting her off the ground. Terror flooded her eyes.

The officer rushed forward. “Hey, calm down! This is the police station—let go!”

Bian Yang stared at the woman, his arm pale under the harsh lights, tense veins standing out in stark relief.
