Chapter 3: Another Calamity of Blood
Lei led Shanpao and the others, surging forward in a flurry to surround Li Sicheng in a fan-shaped formation.
Seeing this, a flash of anger crossed Lin Muxue’s beautiful face.
Her female bodyguard, quick to read the situation, immediately asked, “President Lin, shall we go throw these men out?”
“No need,” Lin Muxue replied, shaking her head slowly. Though the circumstances seemed unfavorable for Li Sicheng, she was full of confidence in him. “If he needs our help dealing with this kind of riffraff, then he wouldn’t be Li Sicheng.”
“Yes, ma’am,” the bodyguard answered with a nod. She did not step forward, but she couldn’t help but wonder silently, “Who is this young man named Li Sicheng, really? President Lin has always been cold and indifferent to men, so why does she care so much about this unknown boy and trust him so deeply?”
Meanwhile, as they closed in around Li Sicheng, Shanpao cracked his knuckles menacingly, his expression twisted as he questioned, “Kid, you’re the one who slapped my boss on the plane, aren’t you?”
“That’s right, it was me,” Li Sicheng replied with a nod, not even trying to deny it. He even added, “No need to thank me. I’ve always believed in doing good deeds without expecting gratitude.”
Lei and his men almost choked at his words.
Thank you?
Gratitude?
Thank your sister! Thank your brother-in-law! You beat someone until their face was swollen like a pig’s head and cracked their skull open, and you still expect thanks? Do you think we’re idiots?
Perhaps noticing the astonished looks on Lei and his men’s faces, Li Sicheng explained earnestly, “What? I helped Lei Tiger discipline his son, taught him how to behave—shouldn’t you be grateful for that?”
“Damn it!” Lei couldn’t help but curse aloud.
He’d always thought himself shameless. Who could have guessed this kid standing before him was several times more so!
Not only did he hit someone, he could even come up with such a twisted logic: “I hit you for your own good.”
This was simply intolerable!
Lei exploded, his face contorted as he roared, “Beat him! Beat him to a pulp! Damn you, teach you how to behave? I’ll show you how to behave today!”
Shanpao and the others obeyed instantly, advancing on Li Sicheng.
Facing three burly men, Li Sicheng showed no sign of panic, only frowning slightly. “I advise you not to come any closer.”
“Now you’re scared? It’s too late! Even if you kneel and beg for mercy today, I won’t let you off!” Lei sneered, clearly misinterpreting Li Sicheng’s reaction as fear and submission.
Seeing they wouldn’t listen, Li Sicheng shook his head helplessly and sighed, “Looks like another bloody disaster is about to happen.”
Lei grinned even wider. “That’s right! A bloody disaster—today you’re going to bleed!”
“Three…” Li Sicheng took a step back.
Shanpao and the others didn’t understand why he was counting. Seeing him retreat, they thought he was trying to escape and hurried to close in.
“Two… one…” With each count, Li Sicheng retreated another step.
Shanpao and his men followed closely, closing the distance to just a step or two.
Suddenly, a loud crash rang out above their heads.
Lei and the others instinctively looked up.
A glass wall above the airport exit, for reasons unknown, suddenly shattered and came crashing down.
With a thunderous roar, the glass wall fell and struck Shanpao and the others dead-on, shattering into countless shards.
They were knocked out cold on the spot, blood streaming from their heads.
Lei was stunned with terror.
Just a step away, Li Sicheng wore an expression of calm expectation, shaking his head as he sighed, “See? I told you a bloody disaster was coming, but you refused to believe me. You could have avoided it, but you insisted on throwing yourselves into harm’s way. That kind of reckless determination is almost admirable.”
“Monster… you’re a monster…” Lei looked at Li Sicheng with naked fear.
He couldn’t help it. On the plane, Li Sicheng had predicted a bloody mishap, and Lei’s head was struck by a falling suitcase; now, he’d just predicted another, and Shanpao’s group had been knocked out by falling glass.
If this had happened only once, it could be dismissed as coincidence. But twice in a row? That could no longer be explained away by mere chance—especially since the odds of an airport glass wall falling were one in a million, and yet it happened to them.
At this point, Lei was convinced Li Sicheng was some kind of supernatural being. If not a monster, then someone with extraordinary powers. Otherwise, how could all these bizarre things keep happening?
Scared out of his wits, Lei dared not linger a moment longer. He turned to run, not caring if Shanpao and the others were dead or alive.
But he didn’t get far. Li Sicheng reached out and grabbed him. “You’re ungrateful for my help and even set people on me. Do you really think you can just walk away from this? Where in the world is it so easy?”
“Yes, yes, yes… It’s all my fault. I failed to appreciate your good intentions. Please, have mercy and let me go,” Lei begged, nearly in tears, pulling out his wallet. “Here, take this as a token of my respect…”
“Do I look like I need money?” Li Sicheng said, though he took the wallet and slipped it into his pocket anyway.
If you don’t need money, why take my wallet? Lei thought, mortified.
Of course, he only dared complain inside. He wouldn’t dream of saying it aloud.
“Then… what will it take for you to let me go?” Lei asked, trembling.
At that moment, he almost wished he’d been knocked out by the glass like the others; at least then he’d be spared further torment.
Li Sicheng pointed to another intact glass wall nearby. “See that?”
Lei hesitated, glancing at the unconscious Shanpao and the others. He quickly understood: Li Sicheng wanted him to smash his head into the glass, just like the others!
Ruthless! What a cruel demand!
But after a moment’s hesitation, Lei gritted his teeth and ran toward the glass wall Li Sicheng had indicated.
Between smashing his head and facing Li Sicheng, the latter was far more terrifying.
With a pained scream, Lei shut his eyes and rammed his head into the glass.
Crash!
The wall shattered; Lei collapsed to the ground. The wound on his head, already bandaged, split open again, and fresh blood poured out, even more than before.
“What are you doing?” Li Sicheng asked, shocked.
“Didn’t you tell me to smash the glass?” Lei retorted.
Li Sicheng was stunned. “When did I tell you to do that? I wanted you to measure the wall’s size so you could order a replacement for the one that fell. That way, you’d have done a good deed. But look at you, smashing the intact wall instead… What were you thinking? Can’t you understand plain speech?”
“You… why didn’t you say so?” Lei was furious and in pain. As the agony in his head overwhelmed him, he lost his breath, his eyes rolled up, and he fainted dead away.
“People call you stupid and you refuse to believe it. See? You really are a fool,” Li Sicheng said, spreading his hands in exasperation.
