Chapter Fifty-Three: The Great Battle Between Gods and Demons Looms, Siblings Reunite
Seeing Nuwa filled with terror, worried that Fuxi was in danger, Chen Xing quickly said, “It’s not what you think. How could Daoist Hongjun ever harm your brother?”
“So you’re saying my brother is in danger?” Nuwa relaxed a little, but still asked in confusion.
Chen Xing smiled wryly. “This time, Daoist Hongjun has invited your brother in hopes of joining forces with him and several friends to deal with an extremely formidable figure. This person’s power is no less than Hongjun’s, and he possesses numerous treasures. I worry that your brother lacks suitable artifacts and might face real peril.”
Chen Xing was indeed helpless. Originally, the timeline had Hongjun inviting Daoist Qiankun, Daoist Yangmei, and the Ancestor of Yin and Yang to break Rahu’s Killing Immortal Sword Formation. In the end, only Daoist Yangmei, with his chaotic spatial powers, escaped unscathed; Daoist Qiankun and Daoist Yin-Yang both perished, and even their personal treasures ended up in Hongjun’s hands.
But now, due to his own appearance, Fuxi’s cultivation was much higher than in the original timeline, and he too was invited by Hongjun. Yet apart from the Star-Slaying Sword Chen Xing had given him, Fuxi lacked any protective treasures. If he really participated in this battle, it would truly be dangerous.
Nuwa grew anxious again after hearing this, exclaiming, “Then let’s hurry and find my brother; stop him from going!”
Chen Xing shook his head, comforting her, “There’s no need to worry yet; there’s still time. Besides, if you call Fuxi back, he’ll suffer a crack in his Dao Heart from avoiding battle, which would harm his future cultivation.”
“What should we do then?” Nuwa was momentarily at a loss.
Chen Xing began to regret; back when he hadn’t sealed his cultivation, he could have acquired any treasure he wanted, but he’d dismissed them as unworthy. Even the only thing he did obtain, the Grade Twelve Creation Green Lotus, he had given to his disciple Shi Hao.
While pondering how to resolve the situation, the little demon beside him whispered, “Why don’t I let Brother Fuxi use my Grade Twelve Purifying White Lotus for now?”
Nuwa’s eyes brightened instantly, and she quickly said, “Right! I also have my Star Pearl; though it’s a postnatal treasure, its power rivals that of innate ones.”
“Exactly! And I still have my Sea-Stabilizing Pearl,” the little demon added happily, excited to finally help everyone.
Seeing the two women offer up their already scarce treasures for Fuxi’s sake, just so he wouldn’t be troubled, Chen Xing felt guilty. Back then, before sealing his cultivation, he could have obtained anything, but he’d simply not valued such things.
Though he’d collected some treasures in the Perfect World, at the time he was only at the quasi-saint realm, and the treasures he found were merely ordinary ones, of little use.
Meanwhile, Niu Zhengwei, who hadn’t spoken, suddenly rumbled, “What’s the point of so many treasures? No matter who it is, as long as my cultivation is strong enough, I’ll smash them with a single blow.”
Hearing this, the three exchanged glances, stunned for a moment, then burst into laughter. Niu Zhengwei scratched his twin horns and said in his simple, honest voice, “Did I say something wrong?”
Chen Xing patted Niu Zhengwei’s shoulder, laughing, “You rascal, can’t you stop pretending to be dumb? But you’re right—there’s a reward!”
He reached into his pocket (don’t ask why it’s a pocket, old readers know) and pulled out one of the few remaining Yellow Plum Fruits, tossing it to Niu Zhengwei. A sly satisfaction flashed in Niu Zhengwei’s eyes; he took the fruit and ran off happily.
“Exactly, why always rely on treasures? Is fighting only about smashing treasures against each other? That’s foolish!” Chen Xing thought, a touch of mischief in his heart.
He said casually to Nuwa, “Don’t worry. When we meet Fuxi, I’ll teach him a footwork technique. Once he masters it, no one will be able to stop him in this tribulation—not even needing any treasures.”
Nuwa nodded. Ever since Chen Xing had told her about the battle styles in that so-called Perfect World, her vision had far surpassed that of ordinary cultivators in the Great Desolation. At least she knew that although Chen Xing had few treasures, he had countless techniques—more than the hairs on Niu Zhengwei’s body. Protecting her brother’s life would not be difficult, so she let go of her worries.
Now that their concerns were resolved, Chen Xing and his companions set out again for Jade Capital Mountain to find Fuxi. This time, they didn’t travel leisurely but directly rode the clouds.
On Jade Capital Mountain, in the grand hall of Purple Cloud Palace, a group was deep in discussion: Hongjun, Daoist Qiankun, Daoist Yin-Yang, Daoist Yangmei, and Fuxi.
“This tribulation is dangerous, but if we succeed, the rewards will be considerable. When the time comes, we can divide the spoils. Will you, esteemed friends, lend me your aid?” Hongjun said seriously.
“But Rahu is truly difficult to deal with, and he has many treasures. If he fights us to the death, even with our numbers, we may suffer losses,” Daoist Qiankun replied, hesitating.
In the past, he had underestimated the fierce beast clan and nearly died at Shen Ni’s hands; if not for Hongjun’s timely rescue, he’d have perished. He’d come now to repay that kindness, but worried about unforeseen changes, so he was hesitant.
“Friend, you’re mistaken! Though Rahu has many treasures, we are not lacking either. No matter how formidable he is, he’s still only at the quasi-saint realm, as are we. Why should we fear him?” The Ancestor of Yin-Yang said dismissively.
Hongjun and the others all nodded in agreement. Among them, Hongjun possessed the Creation Jade Disc and, by chance, one of the Three Treasures of Opening Heaven—the Pangu Banner. The Ancestor of Yin-Yang had the Tai Chi Diagram, another Opening Heaven treasure. Daoist Qiankun wielded the top-grade innate treasure, the Qiankun Cauldron. In terms of treasures, they were not inferior to Rahu—perhaps even surpassing him.
Daoist Yangmei lacked powerful treasures, but his mastery over the Dao of Space was uncanny, making him the top fighter among them. With Fuxi, now at the late quasi-saint stage, their confidence in defeating Rahu was absolute. Thinking of dividing Rahu’s many innate treasures, Daoist Qiankun grew fervent with anticipation.
“But how will the three tribes of the Great Desolation be dealt with?” Fuxi couldn’t help but ask. After all, they were the protagonists of this tribulation, and he didn’t want to get too deeply involved.
Hongjun shook his head. “Under the Heavenly Dao, the three tribes are destined to fall in this calamity. We need only deal with Rahu’s demon clan after the tribulation.”
As the top cultivators in the Great Desolation, they had long sensed the Heavenly Dao’s will and knew Hongjun spoke the truth, so they asked no more, settling into Dao discussion as they awaited the right moment.
One day, as they were deep in discussion, Hongjun suddenly stood and laughed aloud: “Friends, we have distinguished guests at the door. Would you join me in greeting them?” As he finished, he cast a meaningful glance at Fuxi and strode out of the hall.
The others were surprised—who could warrant such attention from Hongjun, who would personally go to greet them? Curiosity piqued, they followed him to the mountain gate.
Outside the mountain gate of Purple Cloud Palace on Jade Capital Mountain, two men and two women stood waiting. Soon, an aged voice rang out: “Ha ha ha! Daoist Chen Xing, you visit again—Hongjun apologizes for not coming sooner!”
As the voice faded, several figures emerged from the hall—it was Hongjun and his companions.
The visitors were Chen Xing and his group. Upon seeing Hongjun, Nuwa and the others bowed, saying, “Greetings, Daoist Hongjun.”
Fuxi, delighted to see his long-lost sister, went forward to chat with Nuwa about her experiences over the years.
“Let me introduce a few friends to Daoist Chen Xing. This is Daoist Qiankun—you met briefly years ago. Do you remember?” Hongjun cheerfully drew Chen Xing over to introduce those beside him.
