Chapter Ninety-Five: The Disciple of Fuxi, the Three Sages Govern the Daoist Sect
At this moment, Chen Xing felt a little moved. It seemed that he and this younger sister truly shared no small fate.
From the leisurely ages of the distant past, he had risen alone to the Great Dao through his own unparalleled talent, only to be nearly erased by the Chaos Calamity that descended from the Lord of the Primordial. Then, in the long river of time, he had unexpectedly recovered the Primordial Spirit Treasure he had lost, using it to suppress a realm of heaven and earth in the Mountains and Seas World and barely preserve his life. Even the strange incidents he encountered while fleeing had somehow turned into a younger sister of his.
Thinking again of the many disasters suffered by his disciple, Little Dot, in that world of his, Chen Xing could only smile wryly. One might as well call it a karmic entanglement.
Just then, after the two had sat down and Chen Mi was recounting her experiences over the years, they suddenly heard footsteps outside and their mother’s anxious voice: "Where is Little Mi? Where on earth has that dead girl run off to these past years? Just wait until I give her a proper lesson today!"
At the sound, Chen Mi’s little face reddened. She made a face at Chen Xing, then hurried out to greet her mother.
As for the main hall of the Daoist Sect on Longevity Mountain, three cloud couches had been placed upon the high platform. Zhu Feng sat high upon the second of them, interviewing the selected candidates.
At the moment, he was not considering the earthshaking killing intent Chen Xing had just released. Zhu Feng knew that if even Chen Xing could not solve the matter, then there was little point in his going either.
Looking at the seven people standing below him, five women and two men, Zhu Feng could not help but feel secretly delighted. These were all treasures indeed.
In the hall now, these few might not be especially famous in the present world, but whether others knew them or not, Zhu Feng certainly did.
When he had selected disciples earlier, the instant he heard these names, he had already decided to take them into the sect.
Among them were one man and three women. The man was named Zhao Gongming, a breeze born of transformation over the Eastern Sea. His cultivation was only at the Great Ultimate Golden Immortal realm and was not especially eye-catching.
Among the three women, the eldest was named Yunxiao, the second Bixiao, and the youngest Qiongxiao. The three had attained the Dao from three innate multicolored clouds. Though their cultivation was not high at present, their innate talent was extraordinary.
Of the other man and woman standing nearby, the woman was named Han Zhixian, formed from a primordial spirit lingzhi mushroom. As for the man, he had a rather notable origin.
Long before the war among the three clans, the Phoenix Ancestor, in order to leave hope for the Phoenix Clan, deliberately sealed two phoenix eggs that had not yet hatched at the bottom of the Immortal Flame Volcano, hoping to leave a seed for the clan.
Later, with Chen Xing’s help, the Phoenix Clan seized a thread of vitality and at last preserved some of their strength.
And the Phoenix Ancestor, who should originally have perished, thereby returned once more to the Immortal Flame Volcano.
It was precisely because the Phoenix Ancestor had not died that the fate of the two later changed completely.
These two had broken from those two phoenix eggs: two princes of the Phoenix Clan. One was named Kong Xuan by the Phoenix Ancestor and could transform into the primordial peacock form, born with the divine five-colored light that could brush away anything.
The other was the person before him, named Yu Yixian. He was the first golden-winged great roc bird between heaven and earth, innately endowed with yin and yang energies; when yin and yang revolved, they could grind all things to dust.
In the original course of events, Yu Yixian had once refined this innate yin and yang energy into a top-tier acquired treasure called the Two Primordial Energies Bottle, and had been formidable for a time, slaying many opponents.
Because of this, Yu Yixian had in effect destroyed his own supreme talent with his own hands, reduced to an ordinary cultivator in the world, a model of wastefulness. In the end he was taken away by Bodhi and ended up as another’s mount.
Of course, the Yu Yixian of today had the Phoenix Ancestor’s guidance, so he would naturally never do such a foolish thing again.
This time, Yu Yixian had come to Longevity Mountain to seek apprenticeship under the guidance of his mother, the Phoenix Ancestor, and his elder sister, Feng Ling'er.
Their intention was to have him take Zhu Feng as his master. After all, Feng Ling'er knew of Zhu Feng’s special position on Square Inch Island. If Kong Xuan had not been in seclusion, they would have had him come as well.
The two understood that as long as one could establish even the slightest connection with Chen Xing, one would surely receive protection, and those who wished to scheme against them would have reason to hesitate.
Looking at these newly accepted disciples, Zhu Feng was immensely pleased with himself. These were all famous disciples of the future Chan and Jie sects! My apologies, brother, but I’ll take them first.
Unfortunately, apart from later taking in another female disciple named Shiji, he ultimately found no other great figures of the Investiture of the Gods era appearing here.
Most notably, not a single one of the Twelve Golden Immortals of the Chan Sect had come this time, which inevitably left Zhu Feng somewhat disappointed. He had even hoped to use this opportunity to poach someone from Yuanshi Tianzun’s camp.
In the end, Zhu Feng had no choice but to select a few with sound origins to make up ten in total, and then choose more with decent enough cultivation to bring the number to over a hundred as outer disciples. Only then was the apprenticeship ceremony considered complete.
Afterward, apart from Yu Yixian, who insisted on becoming Zhu Feng’s disciple, Zhao Gongming and the other four all willingly entered under the tutelage of Zhenyuanzi.
As for Fuxi, who had originally been designated as a main sect master, he ended up with only one disciple named Chen Tian.
The remaining three who had merely been added to make up the numbers were taken in by Qingfeng and Mingyue, which at least made them disciples under a sage. After that, they were no longer a concern.
Speaking of Fuxi’s disciple Chen Tian, one could not avoid mentioning the old matter of Nuwa creating humanity.
Back then, in order to help Little Demon reshape his body, Nuwa had encountered an accident while creating humans and unexpectedly created a baby first. Seeing that the child’s aptitude was not ordinary and that he also shared some karmic ties with them, the two had brought him back to Square Inch Island.
Today, that baby from years past had already grown into adulthood. Because his body bore the blood essence imprints of Chen Xing and Nuwa, and with the consent of Chen father and Chen mother, he had also taken Chen as his surname along with Chen Xing.
At Nuwa’s insistence, Fuxi accepted Chen Tian as his disciple. In Nuwa’s words, this was what Fuxi owed Chen Tian. Though Fuxi did not initially understand why she would say such a thing, he had never intended to go against his younger sister’s wishes, so he took Chen Tian in.
Only later, when humanity flourished and the Heavenly Emperor was to appear, did Fuxi learn from Nuwa that he himself had originally been the Heavenly Emperor appointed by Heaven’s Way.
Yet because he had come to know Chen Xing, his fate had long since changed. Still, the position of Heavenly Emperor had to be filled by someone, and thus Chen Tian came into being.
In the main hall of the Daoist Sect, under the endless majesty of the sage, the sect leader Zhenyuanzi finally appeared before the anticipation of the assembled disciples. With him came the third sect master, Fuxi, and a man standing behind him.
After revealing his form, the man walked down and stood together with Zhao Gongming and the others.
Looking at the sage whose majesty seemed boundless above them, the newly admitted disciples all knelt with reverent expressions and cried out, "This disciple pays respects to the Grand Master, the Second Master, and the Third Ancestor!"
When they finished, everyone respectfully knocked their heads three times.
"Mm. Rise," Zhenyuanzi said calmly.
At his words, everyone stood and saluted with clasped hands. "Thank you, Grand Master."
Zhenyuanzi nodded and said, "Now that our Daoist Sect has been established, seniority must be determined. Zhao Gongming was the first to enter as a disciple and shall be the eldest senior brother. None of you may fail to show him respect.
"Yu Yixian is next; having entered under Junior Brother Zhu Feng, he shall be the second senior brother.
"Chen Tian is a disciple accepted years ago by Junior Brother Fuxi of the Second Sect Master. Since he is younger in age, he shall be the third disciple.
"The three Xiaos come next and shall take the fourth through sixth seats, as senior sisters and junior sisters.
"Han Zhixian shall be the seventh disciple. Shiji, having entered latest, shall take the final seat. Have you all remembered?"
The crowd answered in unison that they had, and exchanged formal greetings with one another.
Zhenyuanzi nodded and looked to Fuxi. "Junior Brother Fuxi, you shall explain our sect’s rules to them." With that, he closed his eyes and said no more.
Fuxi smiled faintly, rose from his seat, and spoke aloud: "Since our Daoist Sect now stands, it must be governed by discipline. You must all remember well. The ten rules of the sect are as follows:
"First, all members of the sect must care for one another and may not fight privately. Violators shall be expelled from the master’s door.
"Second, no one in the sect may betray teacher or ancestors or turn against the sect. Violators shall be killed.
"Third, no one in the sect may wantonly kill the innocent or disregard human life. Violators shall be killed.
"Fourth..."
At length, Fuxi finally finished explaining the ten rules, then said, "You must all keep the rules in mind. Do not disappoint us."
"Yes, Third Sect Master!" Zhao Gongming and the others answered in unison.
Thus, under the joint calculations of one sage and two quasi-sages, a Daoist lineage had taken root in the Great Wilds.
