Chapter 133: Origins
"A-Ming, the reason I am telling you all of this, and the reason I dared to pursue you so boldly today, is because I suddenly feel that my status is finally enough. I used to feel that I wasn't worthy of you, which is why I never dared to speak these words. But now, I am completely your equal, and our family backgrounds can finally be considered a match."
After finishing her sentence, Lin Peishi pressed a gentle kiss to Shu Yiming's lips and held him tightly in her arms.
"Do you know how your mother ended up in that state?" Shu Yiming asked. He remembered that the woman from those years had been formidable. She had been a figure of immense power, much like Zhao Tianguang. If she had suddenly met with an accident, there had to be something suspicious about it. Before, Lin Peishi had meant little to him, and he could have easily ignored it. But now that she was his woman, he had to ask.
Lin Peishi nodded slowly. "I have heard some things from others, and I have been investigating it myself recently. I discovered that my mother became this way because of a car accident, after which she lost all her memories."
"But whether that accident was orchestrated or not, I haven't been able to determine yet. However, it is linked to Zhao Tianguang." As she said this, Lin Peishi narrowed her eyes, and a flash of cold, sharp light glinted within them.
Shu Yiming felt a jolt of alarm. Connecting her earlier forwardness with her current predicament, he felt a sense of heartache, and a faint, simmering anger began to rise from the depths of his heart. He looked at her with sudden, grave seriousness, his gaze cold. "Tell me the truth. Were you being so forward earlier because you wanted my help?"
Lin Peishi seemed to snap out of a trance, realizing her behavior had been too much. She froze, instinctively shaking her head and waving her hands in a flurry of denial. "No, it's not what you're thinking! My feelings for you are sincere, A-Ming. Please, don't overthink this."
"Oh, is that so? I hope that's the case." Although Shu Yiming nodded and his stern expression softened, the lingering discomfort in his heart remained, sharp as a fishbone stuck in his throat.
"A-Ming, if this matter really does involve Zhao Tianguang, will you still be with Vivian?" Lin Peishi tugged gently on his arm, looking up at him with teary eyes. Seeing that he remained silent, she continued, "I know you are a man of great ambition, and I know I won't be the only woman in your life; I have already prepared myself for that. But..."
She fell silent for a moment before adding, "If possible, could you please not get too close to Vivian? She is truly not a good person. If you get too close to her, you will be the one to suffer in the end."
"Yes, alright." Shu Yiming closed his eyes. He had no other thoughts left; he only wanted to escape this car and find a moment of calm.
After finally dropping Lin Peishi off at home, he didn't waste a second. He slammed his foot on the accelerator, pulled a 180-degree drift, and sped away. Although he knew Lin Peishi’s feelings for him were real, analyzing the situation as it stood, he could no longer tell exactly how much of that sincerity was genuine.
