Chapter 145: The Vote
Just as he was reveling in his triumph, the door was suddenly thrust open. Ouyang Zhuo rushed in, his expression exceptionally grave. "I object!" he declared. "This matter has not yet been brought to light, and the boss will be returning at any moment! Shu Ji, you lack both virtue and ability, yet you dare to covet this position? You really ought to take a good look at exactly what kind of person you are!"
Hearing this, Shu Ji turned back to see Ouyang Zhuo and let out a cold sneer. Glancing disdainfully at the crowd, he said, "How about this: let us put it to a vote. Those of you who wish to stand with me, raise your hands. They say the eyes of the masses are sharp; Ouyang Zhuo, watch closely today and see whether these people here support you or me!"
This was exactly the outcome Ouyang Zhuo had hoped for. It was the perfect opportunity to see at a glance who among them were mere fence-sitters.
As soon as Shu Ji finished speaking, a few people immediately raised their hands. However, the majority remained motionless.
Shu Ji looked at them, puzzled. "What is this? Do you still have questions? Or was I not clear enough in what I just said?"
He flipped open the contract again, pointed to the most critical pages, and tapped them in front of the group.
"Look clearly! Do you have no idea what this contract could bring you?" Shu Ji’s voice was loud, ensuring everyone nearby heard him perfectly.
"It’s not that," an elderly man stood up and said. "We have a question. If this thing is truly as good as you claim, why hasn't it been popularized yet? It falling into our laps like this… it comes as quite a surprise."
Shu Ji chuckled, then gave a cold huff. "You don't understand, do you? This is what we call personal charisma. If it weren't for me, you would never have had such a golden opportunity, truly!"
"I will ask one more time. Those who agree to have me as chairman, raise your hands now. If you do not agree, you may remain silent, though I should warn you that in the future, the distribution of shares will be tilted in my favor." Shu Ji’s tone was now deadly serious as he swept his gaze across the room.
This time, more people raised their hands—a dozen more than before.
"Do you see? There is now one more person supporting me than not. It means these people acknowledge me in their hearts. Ouyang Zhuo, why don't you go find somewhere cool to stay? There is nothing for you here!" Shu Ji smiled triumphantly and signaled to the bodyguards behind him. "What are you standing around for? Get these meddlers out of here! Keeping him here serves no purpose and will only hinder our affairs."
The guards immediately stepped forward, cornering Ouyang Zhuo and grabbing him by the arms to drag him out.
Just then, the door was kicked wide open. Shu Yiming stood at the entrance, his gaze sweeping coolly across the room.
His eyes eventually settled on the two guards, and he spoke in a frigid tone: "To dare to lay hands on my people on my own turf—has no one ever taught you how to conduct yourselves?"
Before the words had even faded, the guards behind Shu Yiming surged forward, surrounding Shu Ji and his men.
"Shu Ji, I will give you one chance. Tell me truthfully who is behind you, and I will not touch a single hair on your head. Otherwise, I have plenty of ways to make you regret this day." Shu Yiming’s voice was thunderous. Shu Ji felt a chill creep into his heart and shivered involuntarily as he looked toward him.
How did he know?
