Chapter Twenty-Four: A Twist of Fate
When Shu Jinghan saw this, her heart ignited with fury.
Though she didn’t know why her brother had run naked, she absolutely refused to believe there was anything wrong with him.
After some thought, Shu Jinghan replied, “I am the sister of the person involved. My brother is not what you say. He’s a good man. He must have felt guilty for failing to protect his sister and was venting his remorse!”
After sending her message, Shu Jinghan thought no more of it, set her phone aside, and pretended nothing had happened.
Yet she didn’t realize that Vivian had just stumbled upon her comment, and immediately stirred up a storm online—handsome brother, distressed over his sister, so remorseful he ran naked to ease his pain...
The next morning, when Shu Yiming awoke, Ouyang Zhuo was already agitated. He emerged from the guest room clutching his phone, eyes wide with shock, unable to utter a word.
Spotting Shu Yiming, he waved urgently, “Bro, something big’s happened!”
“What’s happened?”
Shu Yiming froze. What could it be this time?
He had died afterward and didn’t know what came next. Could his luck still falter now that he had changed his fate? No, even if the sky fell, it wouldn’t crush him all at once.
He was no longer the old Shu Yiming.
He took a deep breath to steady himself, stepped forward, and asked, “So, what exactly happened? My resilience is decent now, I’m not afraid.”
Ouyang Zhuo swallowed, raised his phone with a grin, and said, “Take a look for yourself, bro. We’re famous now! People fear fame like pigs fear fattening up. I reckon we’ll need masks every time we leave the house from now on!”
Shu Yiming’s heart skipped a beat in alarm.
But when he looked closely, he rolled his eyes and slapped Ouyang Zhuo’s shoulder, “You rascal, what did you do? Well, I must admit, it’s a surprise.”
Fortunately, it wasn’t a bad thing. The internet had already bestowed upon him the title of exemplary elder brother, with droves of supporters. It seemed the company could save a fortune in advertising from now on.
“By the way, Ouyang, check something for me—see if there’s a man called Uncle Song Third.” Shu Yiming had dreamed last night, recalling many things previously overlooked.
This Uncle Song Third was born the same year as Shu Yiming, only two months older.
In his previous life, Shu Yiming had heard that Uncle Song Third was a formidable figure, but sadly, he never met him before his death.
Though they were contemporaries, Uncle Song Third’s reputation far exceeded Shu Yiming’s. Before Shu Yiming’s downfall, Uncle Song Third single-handedly swept up the major futures markets, rising overnight—a legend at the time.
He had been too busy trying to save himself to care about such matters, but thinking back, there hadn’t been any news about this recently, so it probably hadn’t happened yet.
Ouyang Zhuo was puzzled but didn’t ask further, nodded, sent a message, and instructed his people to investigate.
After breakfast, the pair prepared to visit Shu Miaoyan at the hospital.
As soon as they opened the door...
What in the world?
Shu Yiming and Ouyang Zhuo were stunned to see crowds densely packed outside.
The moment the door opened, the crowd erupted in excitement, shouting and cheering.
Leading them was, of course, Vivian.
Ouyang Zhuo stared at her, tugged at Shu Yiming’s arm.
“Bro, she looks familiar. Remember the girl who chased us last night? Ring any bells? I think it’s her!”
Ouyang Zhuo frowned as he asked.
Shu Yiming paused, looked outside, nodded, and suddenly understood.
“You’re saying yesterday’s incident was her doing? She filmed us both, and now she’s brought people to block us here?”
“Bro, maybe she’s got her eye on you! Why don’t you try talking to her—ask them not to block the way? We have work to get to!”
Ouyang Zhuo grinned, his eyes crescent-shaped as he looked at Shu Yiming.
“Bah, why don’t you go yourself? This is getting out of hand. Come on, I happen to know a back door in the garden—no one’s aware of it. Let’s slip out quickly; I want no part in being hunted by internet sleuths.”
Shu Yiming shook his head, packed his things hurriedly, and rushed toward the garden’s rear exit.
They had intended to visit the hospital, but with the situation as it was, they had no choice but to slink back to the company.
After last night, Shu Yiming depended even more on Ouyang Zhuo. After discussing, they decided to have Ouyang Zhuo take a secretary position in the company, making it easier for the brothers to collaborate.
Today’s trip to the company promised a bloodbath.
It was obvious: after yesterday, Shu Zucheng was thoroughly provoked. The old man would surely try every trick to force him out!
The question was, after a night, what schemes had the old man devised?
With this in mind, Shu Yiming’s mood soured. He and Ouyang Zhuo entered with solemn faces.
The receptionist glanced at them strangely, quickly lowering her head.
Every employee they passed wore odd expressions, as if warning Shu Yiming that he’d done something questionable.
Ouyang Zhuo, sensing Shu Yiming’s unease, nudged his arm repeatedly, assuring him that nothing would happen.
Shu Yiming, though admittedly immature, knew Ouyang Zhuo meant well, so he simply smiled.
Sure enough, as soon as they exited the elevator, Shu Zucheng’s secretary was waiting. When he saw Shu Yiming, he approached with a forced smile, “Mr. Shu, the boss is waiting.”
“Boss?” Shu Yiming scoffed.
He hadn’t expected Shu Zucheng to act so swiftly. He’d assumed there’d be a couple of days’ buffer, but the old man already treated himself as the master.
Although Shu Yiming was uncertain and hadn’t yet come up with a strategy, he wasn’t afraid—just frustrated that he had no immediate solution.
Meanwhile, Zhao Tianguang sipped his tea and asked gently, “You’re saying that boy broke Shu Zucheng’s scheme? And became famous?”
“Boss, your insight is truly sharp! I would never have imagined such a reckless youth could scare Shu Zucheng into the ICU—he hasn’t woken up yet!” Zhu Wanwan shook her head, baffled.
“Is that so? Pass the word: the contract is signed with him alone. No substitutes.”
“Boss, isn’t that helping him? What’s so special about this kid?”
“You want to help as well, don’t you? Otherwise, why mention him to me?” Zhao Tianguang smiled, startling Zhu Wanwan so much she shivered.
Zhu Wanwan nodded quickly, said no more, and hurried out the door...
