Chapter One: The Divine Yanluo System
“God-level Yama System binding successful!”
“Current plane: Battle Through the Heavens!”
“Current level: Level One!”
“Function unlocked: The host receives ten percent of the deceased’s abilities from their lifetime!”
“Host: Lin An”
“Current stage: First Stage of Dou Qi!”
“Current Soul Points: 100”
[Note: Soul Points are determined by the strength of the deceased in life, as judged by the system. Soul Points can be used to increase the host’s power, martial skills, and talent, and can also be used to upgrade the Hall of Yama. The higher the level of the Hall of Yama, the more abilities the host will possess.]
...
As Lin An drifted in a daze, a mechanical voice suddenly echoed in his mind. Just as he thought he was dreaming, a warm current surged through his body, accompanied by an unpleasant and pungent odor emanating from himself.
He awoke from unconsciousness to find himself lying in an unfamiliar forest.
“Where is this place? Could this really be the Battle Through the Heavens world? Was everything from my dream actually real?” Lin An muttered in disbelief.
“Is there a system starter pack?” Lin An asked under his breath.
[The system starter pack has been issued. Would you like to open it?]
Without hesitation, Lin An mentally confirmed to open the system starter pack.
[Congratulations, host’s level +5. Current stage: Fifth Stage of Dou Qi!]
[Congratulations, host has obtained Level One Hall of Yama!]
[Congratulations, host has acquired the First Level of Six Paths Reincarnation Technique!]
As the system’s voice faded, Lin An could distinctly feel the power surging within him—an entirely novel sensation.
“What is the Hall of Yama? Is it the underworld?”
Just from the system’s name, Lin An could tell that this so-called Yama System was very likely connected to the legendary underworld of Earth’s mythology. Even the cultivation technique provided was the Six Paths Reincarnation Technique.
Though it was only the first level, just from the name alone, it was clear this technique was extraordinary.
Lin An took a step forward, channeled the Dou Qi within him, and struck a massive ancient tree—so large that three people could not encircle it with their arms.
With a muffled sound, the colossal tree instantly disintegrated into dust, scattering with the wind.
“This is terrifying! I’m only at the fifth stage of Dou Qi. If I reach the Battle Emperor level in this world, burning mountains and boiling seas, shifting stars—those won’t just be empty words,” Lin An said, excitement evident in his expression.
Back on Earth, Lin An was an orphan, just an ordinary person with nothing to tie him down. Now, with such an incredible system, he felt the days of stepping over Xiao Yan and slapping Soul Heaven Emperor were just around the corner.
The only trouble was, he had no idea what point in the timeline he’d landed.
As Lin An puzzled over this, two people suddenly appeared not far away.
One of them, a young man about the same age as Lin An, looked travel-worn, as if he’d been on the road for some time.
Lin An quickly approached them.
“Excuse me, young master, could you tell me where we are?” Lin An asked.
“Not far ahead is the Cloud Mist Sect. It’s currently the time for their disciple recruitment. Aren’t you here for the selection as well?” Zhao Lin asked, somewhat surprised.
Upon hearing Zhao Lin’s words, Lin An finally noticed that there was indeed a mountain up ahead, shrouded in ethereal mist, with a steady stream of people making their way toward it.
“Forgive me, I’ve just arrived and seem to have lost my way,” Lin An replied with a smile.
“My name is Zhao Lin. If you don’t mind, you can travel with me and Uncle Wang. We can look after each other,” Zhao Lin offered.
Lin An was more than willing, so he agreed without hesitation.
The three of them resumed their journey toward the Cloud Mist Sect.
Along the way, they encountered quite a few other hopeful disciples, but the trio kept to themselves, uninterested in making small talk.
Lin An, now at the fifth stage of Dou Qi, was already considered above average for his age. Entering the Cloud Mist Sect as a disciple should not be a problem.
When they arrived at the foot of the mountain, disciples of the Cloud Mist Sect led them up.
It was Lin An’s first time seeing such an imposing scene, and he was genuinely awed—after all, the Cloud Mist Sect was the foremost sect in the Jia Ma Empire.
“You’re all quite lucky. This year, the one leading the recruitment is none other than Nalan Yanran, the sect master’s personal disciple. She’s the top talent of the Cloud Mist Sect and a beauty without equal. In the future, she’ll surely be the most stunning woman of the sect,” the leading disciple explained along the way, his eyes filled with admiration as he spoke of Nalan Yanran.
“What level is Senior Sister Nalan at now?” Lin An inquired.
“Not long ago, Senior Sister Nalan broke through to the eighth stage of Dou Qi. If the sect master hadn’t deliberately suppressed her advancement, she’d already be at the Fighter stage,” Qian Yu replied.
Lin An nodded. Since Nalan Yanran hadn’t yet reached the Fighter stage, it meant she hadn’t gone to Wutan City to dissolve her engagement. Xiao Yan’s era had not yet begun.
This was actually quite advantageous for Lin An.
Moreover, when Lin An had read Battle Through the Heavens in the past, he never thought Nalan Yanran was in the wrong. In fact, he found her quite intriguing.
Once his accommodation was arranged, Lin An settled into his room, ready to thoroughly explore the Yama System.
With a silent thought, he entered the system space and vanished from his room.
He found himself in a strange space, not very large, shrouded in darkness and thick with an eerie aura. Yet, within this place, Lin An felt pleasantly warm.
Before him stood a majestic throne, crafted from unknown materials. Lin An stepped forward and sat upon it.
Instantly, information about the throne flooded his mind.
The Yama Throne—a symbol of the Hall of Yama’s master—grants absolute suppression over any soul that enters the Hall.
“Not a bad thing at all,” Lin An murmured.
Though the Yama System was only at level one, he was certain that more functions would unlock as it upgraded. Its future potential was astonishing.
He also discovered that cultivating the Six Paths Reincarnation Technique here was twice as effective with half the effort.
Three days quickly passed.
The Cloud Mist Sect’s disciple assessment officially began.
The initial process was simply age and cultivation registration.
For Lin An, this posed no difficulty.
At the same time, he finally saw Nalan Yanran in person. She was, without question, the most beautiful woman he had ever laid eyes on—even more so than anyone he’d seen back on Earth.
“Such a stunning beauty must not be wasted,” Lin An mused.
In truth, he was not alone—many of the new disciples found themselves captivated by Nalan Yanran.
After all, though still young, Nalan Yanran was already a budding beauty, sure to become breathtakingly gorgeous with time.
