After hearing Lin An’s words, Su Qian hesitated. He was worried that releasing the Fallen Heart Flame would certainly cause unrest on an even greater scale, which was the last thing he wanted to see.

But then he thought of how Lin An had managed to control two Heavenly Flames at such a young age. There had to be something extraordinary about him.

Moreover, considering the rumors surrounding Lin An, Elder Su Qian felt that mastering another Heavenly Flame should probably be an easy matter for him.

Very soon, Su Qian and the other elders of Jia Nan Academy completely lifted the formation and restrictions that had originally imprisoned and suppressed the Fallen Heart Flame.

As though sensing that the formation sealing it had vanished, the Fallen Heart Flame remained still for a brief moment. Then it finally began to stir.

For it, this was an opportunity that came once in a thousand years.

“Boom!”

A deep, thunderous roar suddenly resounded beside everyone’s ears. Amid that collision, which sounded like two meteors crashing together, Lin An and the others could clearly feel the entire Blazing Sky Qi Refining Tower tremble violently.

Everyone gazed somewhat pale-faced at the fiery lava erupting from the enormous shaft. Even with the energy barrier isolating them from it, they could still faintly sense its scorching heat.

The blood-red column of lava slammed heavily into the top of the Blazing Sky Qi Refining Tower. Yet despite its fierce, unstoppable momentum, it did not shatter the tower. At the instant of impact, a thin, dark energy barrier immediately appeared over the tower’s black spire.

The barrier looked so fragile that it seemed less than a finger’s breadth thick. Yet this seemingly flimsy layer of dark energy actually blocked the savage lava column completely.

Its assault having failed, countless fragments of rock shot out from the lava and splashed against the surrounding energy barrier. The moment they came into contact with it, the violent energy within the barrier reduced them to powder.

That was the formation originally used to seal the Fallen Heart Flame’s energy, and it was also the first layer of defense.

Before long, however, the formation and restrictions were completely broken through by the Fallen Heart Flame.

Scorching waves continued to surge across the surface of the blood-red lava. Moments later, the waves suddenly swelled, and an enormous, transparent fire serpent slowly thrust its huge, ferocious head out from within them.

“What… what is that?” Gazing at the invisible fire serpent, of which only a massive head and part of its body were visible, someone exclaimed, “Could that be the Fallen Heart Flame?”

Su Qian and the other elders all stared at the Fallen Heart Flame before them in utter shock, finding it difficult to accept what they were seeing.

They had believed that the Fallen Heart Flame erupted every so often and attempted to break free purely out of instinct. But now it seemed that the true reason it had relentlessly sought to escape was the intelligence it had already developed.

“I never expected the Fallen Heart Flame to evolve to this extent. At this point, it is hardly any different from an ordinary magical beast.” Yao Chen’s astonished voice suddenly rang out. Clearly, the invisible fire serpent had shocked him no less than it had the others.

“Shriek!”

The invisible fire serpent suddenly let out an extremely sharp hiss. An invisible sonic wave abruptly spread outward and slammed heavily into the surrounding energy walls. The walls immediately rippled violently, wave after wave of distortion expanding in every direction.

“Lin An, you must deal with the Fallen Heart Flame quickly. If you allow it to continue, I’m afraid half of Jia Nan Academy will soon be destroyed by it!”

Su Qian spoke to Lin An with an ugly expression. Had he known that the thing had evolved to such a degree, then no matter how much confidence he had in Lin An, he would never have completely lifted the formation and restrictions trapping the Fallen Heart Flame. He would have done so only after making absolutely certain of victory.

“Don’t worry. Everything is under my control,” Lin An said with a smile.

It was as though Heavenly Flames naturally attracted one another. Ever since breaking free of the restrictions, the Fallen Heart Flame had kept its eyes fixed on Lin An. In fact, Lin An himself was its target.

A scorching stream of lava shot straight out from the top of the Blazing Sky Qi Refining Tower like a pillar of fire. At that instant, the energy throughout the inner academy suddenly erupted into chaos.

Having broken through the seal of the Blazing Sky Qi Refining Tower, the Fallen Heart Flame released an excited, piercing hiss from within the lava stream, as loud as a thunderclap. The lava then scattered in all directions, and fierce flames immediately rose wherever it landed. In a matter of moments, the area within dozens of meters of the tower had become a sea of fire.

As the lava fell, an invisible fire serpent measuring dozens of yards in length burst out from within it. Sensing the freedom it had not tasted in ages, the enormous triangular pupils of its eyes were filled with an almost humanlike delight.

Lin An had originally intended to summon the three Heavenly Flames he controlled and use them to trap the Fallen Heart Flame. But after reconsidering, he realized that if he did that, he might as well have subdued it beneath the Blazing Sky Qi Refining Tower from the beginning.

With that, Lin An took one step forward and appeared not far from the Fallen Heart Flame.

At that moment, he revealed his cultivation without reservation: the realm of a two-star Dou Ancestor.

Quite a few people could not help drawing in a sharp breath when they saw this.

The strength Lin An displayed shocked them even more deeply than the Fallen Heart Flame itself.

A two-star Dou Ancestor at such a young age was something none of them had ever heard of, at least not within the limits of their experience.

The Fallen Heart Flame suddenly thrust its body forward. In the next instant, its enormous form shot out like lightning. Its speed was astonishingly fast, with not the slightest trace of sluggishness despite its massive body.

Wherever the fire serpent passed, it left a vacuum trail through the empty space. The temperature was searingly hot. Even from a great distance, several elders’ expressions changed slightly. Though they had yet to exchange blows with the Fallen Heart Flame, they could still sense how formidable it was—far stronger than before.

“Dragon-Scaled Divine Elephant Shield!”

Lin An let out a low shout. A huge, golden dragon scale appeared in midair from nowhere. It was precisely the soul skill Lin An had mastered on the Douluo Continent.

The moment he returned to the Dou Qi Continent, Lin An had tried using all his soul skills once and discovered that none of them had been affected in the slightest.

“Is Lin An planning to withstand the Fallen Heart Flame’s attack head-on? Why isn’t he using a Heavenly Flame? If he uses all three, shouldn’t he be able to block it?” Nalan Yanran asked, unable to understand.

“Perhaps he has his own plans. When have you ever seen him do something he wasn’t confident about?” Yao Chen replied.

Nalan Yanran nodded. At a time like this, she could only choose to trust Lin An.

Boom!

In the next moment, the Fallen Heart Flame’s terrifying massive body, containing an overwhelming amount of energy, crashed directly into Lin An’s Dragon-Scaled Divine Elephant Shield.

To everyone’s surprise, the dreadful impact was completely neutralized upon striking the golden divine shield. Lin An stood exactly where he was without moving an inch. It was as though all the commotion created by the Fallen Heart Flame had merely been an attempt to intimidate them.
