“Let go of me, let go! You bastard, you scoundrel!” Xia Yuwei fought him with all her strength, kicking and pushing at Lu Yichen to get him off her. She had always known he was violent, but never imagined that one day his violence would be directed at her.

Her cold, distant attitude had already wounded Lu Yichen deeply, but now her fierce words and desperate attempts to push him away chilled him to the bone. He reached out and gripped her throat.

Xia Yuwei’s voice was trapped in her throat. His strength was terrifying—her face flushed, and she felt she was suffocating. Her hands clawed desperately at his, trying to pry it away.

Half in shadow, half in light, tears streamed down Xia Yuwei’s face, flowing along her temples and soaking into her hair.

He hated her—he hated her so much that he wanted her dead…

Lu Yichen stared at the writhing figure beneath him, yet his mind was blank—he saw nothing, heard nothing, felt nothing…

“Lu Yichen! Lu Yichen!” Xin Xin’s voice echoed from outside. She had finished washing the dishes and, finding the living room empty, had searched everywhere but found no one. He wouldn’t leave without saying goodbye, would he? So she called out for him, just in case…

As if his soul had just returned to his body, the loud voice from outside jolted Lu Yichen awake.

What did he see?

Xia Yuwei had stopped struggling. Her beautiful eyes, filled with despair, gazed at him—just looked at him…

He abruptly released her, leaping off the bed. Xia Yuwei finally managed a cough, gasping for air, her chest heaving violently, yet she didn’t utter a word or move.

“Yuwei…” Lu Yichen’s voice trembled. In that moment, he felt he was losing her—for real, losing her.

Bang! The door swung open, light spilling from the living room into the bedroom. Xin Xin stood at the threshold.

“Yichen, why are you here?” Xin Xin had heard his faint voice from outside, pushed the door open, and saw him standing by the bed. Xia Yuwei lay motionless, wrapped in a bedsheet. What had happened?

Lu Yichen ignored Xin Xin’s questioning stare and doubts, lowered his head, and walked out, leaving their home behind.

Xin Xin, full of confusion, stood in Xia Yuwei’s bedroom, bewildered. Lu Yichen, Xia Yuwei—what was going on?

“Yuwei, can you give me an explanation?” she asked.

“….” A faint sound escaped Xia Yuwei’s throat, but no words came. She reached up and touched her neck, which burned with pain. She wanted to speak to Xin Xin, but her voice seemed unfamiliar—deep and hoarse.

“Yuwei, darling, what’s wrong?” Xin Xin finally noticed something was amiss and walked over to her.

“It’s nothing. Let me rest alone for a while, please,” Xia Yuwei turned her head, speaking in a low voice.

The door closed once more.

In the darkness, a face gradually appeared in her mind.

Senior Ye, you will love me, you will protect me, won’t you…
