007 - Taken Away Directly
“If you really don’t want me to treat you, then just be the magnanimous one and forgive the petty, will you? For the sake of me being a patient, let me go home and rest,” Xia Yuwei braced herself to ignore Lu Yichen’s devilish tone and tried to keep her voice steady.
“I’m coming home with you!” Lu Yichen declared in a tone that brooked no argument, already rising to his feet.
“No!” Two women cried out in unison.
“And why not?” Lu Yichen raised an eyebrow, unfazed. Without further ado, he grabbed Xia Yuwei’s hand, intent on leaving with her.
Xia Yuwei reached out with her other hand to break free from his iron grip, her feet glued to the floor. No matter what, she absolutely refused to be dragged away by him. Bent over under his hold, her whole body resembled a curled shrimp. She knew how ridiculous she must look right now, but what else could she do? She couldn’t find a single reason to let him take her home, and she definitely couldn’t have him see the people at her house…
“Brother Chen, what about me?” Bai Yixuan pouted. Wasn’t he being a little too attentive to this woman? She really couldn’t understand what he was thinking—offering to take another woman home and just leaving her here. Wasn’t he afraid that a young, beautiful girl like her might be snatched up by someone else?
“As you wish,” Lu Yichen was on the verge of losing his mind from being tormented by these two troublesome women.
“Hey, if you leave, who’s going to pay the bill?”
“Is the unlimited credit card I gave you not enough?” Lu Yichen finally lost all patience. Without another word, he scooped up the stubborn Xia Yuwei in his arms and strode out.
“Lu Yichen, you’re too much!” Bai Yixuan stamped her foot in anger.
“No—” Xia Yuwei tried to protest. For a twenty-eight-year-old woman to be carried out by such a devastatingly handsome man—this was far too conspicuous!
“Shut up!” Lu Yichen rudely cut her off.
Xia Yuwei was left speechless. She’d thought he might have changed as he grew up, but he was still as blunt and rough as ever—always so quick to start a fight, always telling people to shut up. Honestly, she was three years his senior; by rights, shouldn’t he be calling her “big sister”?
Lu Yichen couldn’t care less about that. He headed straight for the elevator, leaving the fuming Bai Yixuan outside as the doors closed.
Once shut, only the two of them remained in the private express lift to the eighty-eighth floor.
Lu Yichen regarded Xia Yuwei’s embarrassment with a certain satisfaction. She was just like she’d always been, soft and pink-cheeked, making him want to take a bite the moment he laid eyes on her. Her cheeks flushed, eyes downcast, her long lashes casting shadows beneath them.
The elevator descended smoothly. The woman in his arms turned her face inward, refusing to look at him, her gentle breath stirring an unexpected heat in him.
“Hey, Lu, that’s enough, don’t you think? Put me down already!” Xia Yuwei’s cheeks were tinged with red. She despised herself—how could she, at her age, still blush in front of this brat? She hadn’t done anything wrong… Yet even as she told him to let her go, her arms unconsciously wrapped more tightly around his neck, not loosening at all.
“Fine!” he said, mischief gleaming in his eyes, and abruptly let go.
Xia Yuwei felt herself drop, for a split second convinced she was about to hit the elevator floor. “Ah!” she shrieked, clutching desperately to his neck, clinging to him like a frightened child.
