Chapter Forty-One: The Fall of the Black Wind Wolf
Liu Feng watched everything unfold, utterly astonished. He had not expected that, at such a critical moment, the mysterious beast hide would once again unleash a tremendous power.
The wolf demon was imprisoned by the silvery force emanating from the beast hide. It howled in anger and terror, feeling its strength draining rapidly. In just a short time, it had already lost ninety percent of its power.
It glared fiercely at Liu Feng, but then its eyes flashed with a pleading look—if this continued, it would soon be utterly depleted and die. “Human, if you let me go, I will grant you endless benefits,” the wolf demon spoke in a human voice, its tone filled with both temptation and supplication.
Liu Feng regarded it, silently weighing his options: “Given its murderous ferocity earlier, there’s no way I can let it go. If it recovers, it would bring great harm to humanity.” Yet, if he could trick some benefits out of the wolf demon, that would be ideal. With this thought, Liu Feng said, “I can release you—if you can show me a treasure that truly moves me.”
“I have collected many spirit stones, elixirs, and rare treasures in my cave. If you lift this imprisonment, all of them shall be yours,” the wolf demon’s eyes flickered, its words laced with deep temptation.
As it spoke, the beast hide absorbed ninety-nine percent of its power, causing its body to shrink significantly. Seeing its strength was about to vanish entirely, the wolf demon’s eyes filled with fear. After centuries of suffering and hardship to reach its current state, it was unwilling to die so senselessly.
Finally, it gritted its teeth and said, “Human, if you lift this seal, I’ll give you the most precious Nirvana Fruit.”
At the mention of the Nirvana Fruit, Liu Feng’s eyes lit up, an expression of interest crossing his face.
The wolf demon noticed his reaction and thought, “He’s hooked.”
It continued, “I have a map here. Once you release me, you can take it.”
Liu Feng’s eyes flickered. “Where is it? Show it to me.”
The wolf demon opened its mouth, revealing, in the gap between its front teeth, a golden scroll crafted from special metal, densely etched with lines that formed routes.
Liu Feng reached out to take the golden scroll from the wolf demon’s mouth. As his hand touched the scroll, the wolf demon’s jaws suddenly snapped shut, biting his arm.
“Boy, release me quickly, or you’ll lose your arm,” the wolf demon’s eyes gleamed with triumph.
“I knew you had no good intentions,” Liu Feng replied coldly.
“Enough nonsense, or you’ll suffer the pain of a severed limb,” the wolf demon threatened.
“If you’re so eager to reincarnate, I’ll oblige,” Liu Feng said, a meaningful smile appearing on his face.
“You—” The wolf demon had only begun to speak when Liu Feng suddenly sent a surge of spiritual power into the beast hide. Instantly, a mighty force flowed forth. The arm the wolf demon was biting erupted in dazzling light, and with a sharp crack, the wolf demon’s head exploded under the immense energy, dying abruptly and unexpectedly.
A flash of silver, and the beast hide dropped into Liu Feng’s hand. He tucked it back inside his clothing.
Liu Feng retrieved the metallic map, finding it marked with a location deep within the Black Demon Forest—the place where the wolf demon had stored its treasures.
He shook his head wryly, stowing the metallic map in his breast. Clearly, he lacked the strength to venture into the heart of the Black Demon Forest yet.
Just then, two figures approached swiftly. In the blink of an eye, they appeared before Liu Feng. When they saw the headless corpse of the wolf demon, they exchanged glances, both visibly shocked.
“Young man, do you know what happened here?” asked one of them, a middle-aged man in his forties or fifties with an unremarkable appearance. The other fixed Liu Feng with a sharp gaze.
Liu Feng guessed immediately—these two must have been battling the wolf demon earlier. The immense power that severed the river had deeply shaken him.
“Honored seniors, I’ve only just arrived and have no idea how the wolf died,” Liu Feng replied calmly, though inwardly he was still in awe.
“The wolf demon’s head was blasted apart by overwhelming force—at least third stage of the Fusion Realm,” one said.
“Perhaps, aside from us, another expert passed through here,” the two mused, falling into contemplation.
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave,” Liu Feng said, feeling the immense pressure from their presence—a gulf of cultivation that could not be bridged.
“With the wolf demon dead, there’s no more danger here,” the two waved him off, signaling he could depart.
Liu Feng strode away, heading toward where Wang Yun and the others were.
He had not gone far when he saw Wang Yun, Li Ying, and their group approaching.
“We just saw you beside us, and in the blink of an eye you vanished,” Wang Yun said, concern in her voice.
“After we hunted the Blackwind Wolf, we searched everywhere for you—even combed the woods. Are you alright?” Li Ying patted Liu Feng’s shoulder, worried.
Liu Feng saw the warmth in their faces and felt a surge of gratitude. He said, a bit apologetically, “I’m sorry for making everyone worry.”
“As long as you’re safe,” Li Feng came over, smiling.
“Alright, let’s continue searching for Blackwind Wolves,” Liu Feng said, heading deeper into the woods, with everyone following.
Soon, they found a dozen more Blackwind Wolves. Under the group’s attacks, they were quickly slain.
Li Ying again removed the beast cores from the wolves.
The group continued their journey, encountering small packs of Blackwind Wolves, all of which soon became contribution points under their assault.
After another two hours, Liu Feng and his companions could find no trace of the wolves and retraced their steps to the gathering spot.
By now, most had returned, bearing minor injuries. The remaining participants trickled in, and finally, the thirty-year-old team leader arrived.
After another two hours, night had fallen. The leader counted heads and found two missing.
“Who is familiar with those two?” he asked.
A young woman in green, lovely in appearance, replied, “Leader, Zhao Xing and Zhang Lie are missing—they’re inner disciples of the Blazing Flame Sect.”
“Either they encountered danger or left early. It’s already dark; we won’t wait for them.” He waved his hand, saying, “Mission accomplished, we return to Scarlet Sun City.”
He led the way out of the forest, and the group followed cautiously.
“Was it you who did something to them?” As Liu Feng walked with the group, a beautiful young woman suddenly blocked him, her expression hostile.
