[Restart Volume] Chapter 219: Call the Doctor!
"Mo Xing?" Chen Anyie noticed Mo Xing and Cai Hong approaching. "And Cai Hong?"
"Long time no see." Cai Hong walked over and shook hands with Chen Anyie. "It feels like the last time we were in the same class was last semester."
"Yeah," Chen Anyie replied.
"Shi Yan, how is she doing now?" Mo Xing asked.
"The doctor says it's not very optimistic, because it's not an ordinary poison," Chen Anyie shook his head and coughed slightly. "It seems to be related to the Dark Sect."
"The Dark Sect? Why them again?" Mo Xing frowned. "During tonight's team competition assessment, one of the berserkers on the opposing team consumed a drug from the Dark Sect and went on a rampage."
"What? Such a thing actually happened!" Chen Anyie said, surprised.
"Yes, I was in the spectator stands at the time and saw on the big screen that the berserker was covered in black smoke," Cai Hong nodded. "Fortunately, the instructor stepped in just in time to contain the smoke, preventing any serious consequences."
"It seems we will need to have the student council officers notify all faculty and students to watch out for these situations and pay attention to any abnormal behavior in those around them," said Chen Anyie.
At that moment, the ward door was pushed open, and several doctors emerged. Mo Xing hurried over.
"Doc... Doctor, how is Shi Yan doing now?" Mo Xing asked anxiously.
"The patient is awake, but her body is still quite weak. Only two or three of you may go in; too many will affect the patient's emotional state," the doctor said.
"Understood, thank you, Doctor."
Mo Xing nodded in acknowledgment and entered. Cai Hong followed behind him, while Chen Anyie arranged for the other student council officers to stand guard outside before joining them.
"Is... is that Mo Xing?"
Hearing the hurried footsteps and hushed conversation, Shi Yan asked softly from the bed.
"Yes... it's me," Mo Xing replied.
"You can come over alone; the other two, please stand where you are and listen," Shi Yan said, turning her body away from the others.
Chen Anyie was a bit surprised, but since it was an order from the vice-president, he and Cai Hong stood their ground.
Mo Xing walked over, and the sight before him left him stunned. He froze in place.
Shi Yan, who usually looked vibrant and lovely, now appeared haggard. Her lips were purple, her eyes were dim and lifeless as if she had lost her soul, and she looked like a flower on the verge of withering.
"Mo Xing, how did your freshman assessment go?" Shi Yan started the conversation, ignoring Mo Xing's shocked expression.
"Ah... it was fine, I suppose."
Mo Xing paused. He hadn't expected Shi Yan to be in such a state and couldn't help but clench his fists.
"Thank you for your help," Mo Xing said, taking a deep breath.
"That's good," Shi Yan smiled faintly.
"Can... can I know what happened?" Mo Xing asked in a low voice.
"Yes, I was just about to tell you..."
Shi Yan smiled slightly, her eyes reddening. She continued in a hoarse voice:
"This morning, I was walking along the trail behind the mountain when I heard people arguing. Through the bushes, I saw Cousin Mian Hua and a person wearing a mask."
"Mian... Mian Hua?" Mo Xing exclaimed.
"I was wondering why Mian Hua hadn't come to watch the match; it seems there was something suspicious after all," Senior Cai Hong whispered.
"It seems this matter is not that simple," Chen Anyie also frowned.
"Yes, the masked person was very sharp and noticed me immediately. He flicked several poison needles from his sleeves. Although I dodged the first two, I was struck by the ones that followed. My whole body felt like it was being bitten by venomous snakes—"
Suddenly, Shi Yan coughed, her entire body trembling along with the quilt.
"Take it slow, no need to rush," Mo Xing said, watching her recount the painful memory. "If it's too painful, you don't have to say it."
"It's alright, please, you must listen to the end," Shi Yan continued. "The moment I fell, Cousin Mian Hua panicked and fought the masked man desperately, but he was clearly no match. The masked man knocked Cousin Mian Hua unconscious and took him away..."
"Where would Mian Hua be taken?" Mo Xing asked. "Did you hear what they were arguing about?"
"I... I only heard two terms..." Shi Yan said slowly. "One was the Divine Weapon Tower, and the other was—"
"Cough!"
Shi Yan had another coughing fit, and this time, she coughed up blood!
"Call the doctor, quickly!"
Mo Xing turned and shouted toward Chen Anyie and the others. Chen Anyie and Cai Hong immediately ran out to report the emergency.
Within moments, hurried footsteps echoed in the hallway. Several nurses and doctors ran in, gathered around Shi Yan's bed, donned gloves, and arranged their medical instruments.
"Student, please wait outside for a moment. We need to provide the patient with the necessary treatment," one of the doctors said.
"O-okay."
Mo Xing glanced at Shi Yan on the bed, praying for her recovery, and walked out reluctantly.
"Mo... Mo Xing, the other one is..."
A branch-shaped bolt of lightning flashed through the rainy night, and thunder rumbled outside.
Shi Yan struggled to utter the final words, and Mo Xing heard that terrifying name once more:
"The Dark Sect."
...
As the ward door closed, Mo Xing stood outside and repeated the three words.
"Them again..." Mo Xing whispered.
Senior Mian Hua's disappearance, Shi Yan's poisoning, and the freshman who went berserk after taking a forbidden drug during the assessment—all of it was inextricably linked to that wretched Dark Sect.
"So Mian Hua was taken away by that masked person," Senior Cai Hong shook his head and took a deep breath.
"Damn it!"
Chen Anyie slammed his fist against the wall, his eyes filled with rage.
"You two, go notify the campus broadcasting station immediately. Have them issue a level-one alert; all faculty and students must be notified," Chen Anyie pointed to two of the student council officers.
"B-but we have to apply to the school authorities first. They have to approve it before we can issue an alert..." one of the officers said, his voice trailing off like a buzzing mosquito.
"Then go write the application! Do you not even know such basic procedures?" Chen Anyie suddenly exploded, the veins on his neck bulging like small snakes.
"Yes, yes... we're going now!" The two officers said, turning to leave, only to be stopped by Cai Hong.
"I'll go with you. I can help you with a lot of things," Senior Cai Hong nodded.
"This..." one of the officers hesitated.
"Let Cai Hong go with you," Chen Anyie said, calming down slightly. "He's a walking 'universal assistant'; he can simplify the process for us and save a lot of time."
"Not at all! I'm not as excellent as you say, I'm just doing my best to help you all," Senior Cai Hong smiled and gave a thumbs-up. "Besides, it's also to find Mian Hua sooner!"
Mo Xing watched the three walk away, thinking that Senior Cai Hong truly was a walking universal assistant. He always showed up to help at critical moments, living up to the "if you're in trouble, find a senior" advice he gave upon their first meeting.
The tension on Mo Xing's face eased slightly, but he remained on edge.
Who was the masked person talking to Senior Mian Hua? Who gave the forbidden drug to the freshman at the assessment? How many more Dark Sect moles were hidden on campus?
He could feel a massive conspiracy at play. The enemy was like a sinister poisonous spider, having spun a large web and preparing to wipe out the small insects that had wandered into the trap.
...
"Students, you are making too much noise."
At that moment, a voice sounded. Mo Xing and the others turned to see Dr. Bai approaching.
"This is a hospital. Please keep it quiet; show some respect for the patients resting," Dr. Bai said calmly, showing no signs of anger.
"Apologies, it is our fault," Chen Anyie bowed slightly to express his regret. The other student council officers followed suit.
Mo Xing was about to bow as well, but Dr. Bai pulled him up.
"No need. I actually have something to discuss with you," Dr. Bai said.
"Oh?" Mo Xing asked, puzzled.
"Step aside with me for a moment," Dr. Bai said.
"Just him?" Chen Anyie asked. "Is it convenient for me to join as well?"
Dr. Bai glanced at Chen Anyie and hesitated for a second.
"Sure, you two can come with me," Dr. Bai nodded.
...
Fourth floor of the hospital, an examination room.
"What? Draw... draw blood?"
Mo Xing asked, confused, as Dr. Bai suddenly mentioned drawing his blood.
"Yes. When you were hospitalized last time, we analyzed your blood and found a miraculous power within it," Dr. Bai nodded.
"Mi... miraculous power?" Mo Xing asked. He suddenly thought of the Water Dragon God Kasin in his spiritual space—could it be his power?
"Yes, this power possesses a strong restorative ability, capable of mending damaged things," Dr. Bai said.
"So, you're saying my blood could help in Shi Yan's recovery?" Mo Xing realized.
"Exactly. The young man is quite sharp," Dr. Bai praised. "That is precisely what I mean."
"Can we start then?"
Mo Xing extended his right arm.
Although he used to be terrified of blood draws, he would give as much blood as needed if it meant helping Shi Yan!
Dr. Bai nodded and moved the instruments over.
"Wait?"
Mo Xing noticed that Dr. Bai had only brought a syringe and a container for blood collection, with no other tools.
"Don't you disinfect my arm with an alcohol cotton ball before drawing blood? And what about that little rope... you know, a tourniquet to tie around my arm?"
"Student Mo Xing, what is this 'alcohol-something-ball' you speak of? Is it some kind of liquor, haha?"
Dr. Bai connected the collection tube to the syringe and gripped Mo Xing's tense arm.
"Are you even a doctor? You don't even know what an alcohol cotton ball or a tourniquet is? Even the quack doctors in the rural clinics know these basics!" Mo Xing said in a panic, watching the needle approach.
"Quack doctor or whatever color doctor you want to call it, this is how we draw blood here at Dr. Bai's!" Dr. Bai laughed.
"Mo Xing, don't be afraid. Doctors draw blood like this here," Chen Anyie, who was watching from the side, said.
Mo Xing calmed down, realizing he was in another world. The doctors here were different from those in his previous world, so the methods would naturally be different.
"A... alright!"
Mo Xing quickly closed his eyes and prayed silently.
"Student Chen Anyie, please help me close the curtains," Dr. Bai suddenly turned and said.
"Oh? Sure."
Chen Anyie hesitated for a moment, then walked to the window. He glanced at the rain outside through the glass before pulling the pale blue curtains shut.
"It... it didn't hurt at all?"
Mo Xing slowly opened his eyes and saw that Dr. Bai had already finished drawing the blood. In the small box beside them sat a test tube filled with about two hundred milliliters of blood.
"You underestimate us healers," Dr. Bai smiled, his right hand emitting a faint cyan light.
"That's incredible! The wound mended?"
Mo Xing exclaimed, noticing that the puncture wound on his arm had closed.
"Actually, your wound was mostly healed by the power within you; I only helped with the pain!" Dr. Bai laughed.
"Creak—"
The door was pushed open slightly, making a sound.
"Who's there?"
Mo Xing realized someone was eavesdropping and immediately jumped up to open the door. He saw a person in a black cloak running toward the end of the hallway and chased after them.
"Mo Xing, wait for me!"
Chen Anyie tried to follow but was stopped by Dr. Bai.
"Dr. Bai? What are you doing?" Chen Anyie asked, confused.
"Student Chen Anyie, please stay!" Dr. Bai smiled, pulled out a surgical scalpel, and met his gaze.
"I want to have a proper talk with you!"
