Volume One: The Awakening of the Dragon Soul, Chapter 88: Shock! There Is Such a Secret!
“What... what? You didn’t write to me?” Mo Xing scratched his head. “Then who sent it?”
“I don’t know either...” Wu Dance on the other end shrugged. “Our team’s already been arranged here, so it’s not convenient to move people over to receive you.”
“So...” Wu Dance paused.
“Then... I stay at Crimson Moon Academy for now?” Mo Xing asked.
“Right, that’s it. I’m hanging up. Bye-bye.”
With that, Wu Dance ended the call, and the blue-white screen on the storage ring dimmed as well.
“You really are not very efficient in your operations.” Gadegsi smiled. “You can even mess up the most basic information transfer.”
“...” Mo Xing did not know what to say. The atmosphere only grew awkward.
“Why don’t you follow us for now, Mo Xing?” Orange proposed.
“Sure, sure.” Mo Xing nodded hastily. It could not be a better idea.
“No!” Gadegsi flatly rejected it. “This guy will slow us down.”
“Hey? Isn’t that a bit too absolute?” Mo Xing said with a wry smile. “My efficiency may not be high, but I shouldn’t be a burden to you, right?”
“I said no means no.” Gadegsi shouted. “You got caught so easily. Isn’t that proof enough that you’re useless?”
“I...” Mo Xing was at a loss for words. In all his life, someone had actually called him useless.
Well... he really was kind of useless...
“The time is almost up.” Seeing the last sliver of sunset sink behind the mountain, Gadegsi waved a hand. “The rest of you, follow me!”
“Yes!”
The others answered at once, quickly falling into formation like a carefully forged corps.
“Sorry, Mo Xing. Senior Brother Gadi won’t let you come with us.” Orange pressed her palms together apologetically.
“It’s fine, it’s fine. I’m not taking it too seriously.” Mo Xing shook his head. “You should catch up with them. Don’t fall behind.”
“Alright then, I’m off.” Orange smiled and waved goodbye.
“Mm.”
Mo Xing waved back as well, watching Orange and the figures of Crimson Moon Academy recede into the distance. He drew a breath and felt a little lonely.
Where should he go? What should he do next?
Go back?
He had already rested for six days. Did he still need to lie around?
Move forward?
He was alone. What could he possibly do?
After some hesitation, Mo Xing ran toward the direction of Twin Moon Dragon City.
...
“Archers, find high ground and fire!”
“Elemental mages, coordinate your control spells!”
“Heavy cavalry, protect the others!”
“Warriors, charge with me!”
Gadegsi issued four orders in succession. The others answered in kind and took their positions.
A row of blue creatures emerged atop the city gate. Their mouths were sharp, their faces twisted with ugliness, and each held a blue bow in hand.
Dragonkin aberrations—Cold Arrow Fiends.
“Fire!” one of them commanded.
A barrage of icy arrows crackling with lightning arced through the air and rained down upon the Crimson Moon Academy corps.
“Shield of Divine Blessing!”
The heavy cavalry were no pushovers either. Dozens of blue shields formed a transparent wall, blocking the arrows outside.
“Return it to them!”
The archers of Crimson Moon Academy released Piercing Split Arrows in unison. A curtain of arrows tore through the air and shot toward the Cold Arrow Fiends atop the gate.
“Sea of Blazing Flames!”
Orange raised the staff Starry Firmament and gathered fire elemental power. Countless flaming meteors descended from above, smashing toward the gate, while the other elemental mages joined in her assault.
“Charge!”
More than a hundred crocodile-like monsters burst out from inside the city gate. Silver chains were wrapped around their crimson limbs, their nostrils were as huge as their eyes, and in both hands they gripped enormous battle axes.
Dragonkin aberrations—Axe Fiends.
“Want a fight with axes? Take this!”
Gadegsi raised his crimson battle axe, Zhurong, and explosive fire elemental power burst forth, transforming into an axe as large as half a basketball court as it came crashing down upon the Axe Fiends.
Heaven-Splitting Divine Axe!
A flash of crimson light swept past. A violent shattering roar surged forward, and every Axe Fiend before them was cleaved cleanly in two. The ground split open with a deep, jagged fissure, stretching all the way to the city gate wall.
The warriors following behind Gadegsi were stunned. They had not even begun to show what they could do, and Senior Brother had already settled everything with a single strike!
At least let the brothers get some assist credit!
“Senior Brother Gadi, save that big move for later,” Orange said, glancing over. Heaven-Splitting Divine Axe was Gadegsi’s finishing technique; it really was not wise to use it so casually.
“No problem. Just giving them a little warning.” Gadegsi smiled. After all, opening with a big move was already a habit of his. “If an enemy can be dealt with in one strike, there’s no need for two.”
“The city gate has been breached!” Gadegsi lifted Zhurong and commanded, “Everyone, charge in!”
“Charge!”
The others responded in unison and followed Gadegsi into the city.
Standing in the rear, Orange frowned slightly. The students of Crimson Moon Academy were chiefly female, with the most exaggerated male-to-female ratio of any school.
But for this operation, for certain reasons, the academy had sent only twenty boys and ten girls to Dragon Fang Island, with Gadegsi leading them and no mentor accompanying them.
Thus, Crimson Moon Academy’s usual gentle, winding tactics had been transformed into a fierce, straight-on style centered on Gadegsi.
As for what consequences that would bring...
Forget it. She did not want to think about it.
Orange hurried after them.
...
Inside the city gate.
Under Gadegsi’s lead, the Crimson Moon Academy corps advanced like a broken bamboo spear, fighting all the way to the Dragon City plaza.
Brute monsters, Cold Arrow Fiends, Axe Fiends, Dark Bolt Fiends...
Countless dragonkin aberrations met their end beneath Gadegsi’s battle axe, Zhurong, and the encirclement of the others.
The coordination was seamless, and hardly anyone was injured.
“Everyone, put your backs into it! Cut all the way through to their palace!” Gadegsi swung Zhurong and slew another dragonkin aberration.
“Senior Brother Gadi! Let’s rest for a moment first! We still need to wait for the other academies to regroup before taking the next step,” Orange suggested. To have fought all the way to the Dragon City plaza so smoothly, without a single injury, somehow felt wrong.
“Wait for them? They’re far too slow!” Gadegsi laughed. “We’ve already reached the Dragon City plaza. They’re probably only just breaking through the gates from the other directions!”
“Now is the time to press the advantage!” Gadegsi wrenched Zhurong free from the soil on the ground. “This time, we absolutely cannot let the other academies steal all the credit!”
“Isn’t that a little too hasty?” Orange frowned slightly.
“Hasty? How could it be!” Gadegsi shook his head. “Our Crimson Moon Academy has been stuck as the eternal third for so long. It’s about time we turned things around!”
“I don’t want to hear people sneering behind our backs and calling us the Little Royal Academy of Saint Sky. Why should we have to wear someone else’s name? Why should we be just a cut-down version of somebody else?” Gadegsi raised Zhurong and bellowed, “Brothers, charge!”
“Charge!”
The others answered at once.
“Hey! Wait!” Orange could not stop them. Those people followed Gadegsi and rushed forward.
“Hahahahaha—”
Suddenly, a burst of eerie laughter echoed from the sky. Everyone halted at once.
A violent gale swept in, and a deformed man wielding a long spear came flying over, riding a giant dragon.
“Who are you?” Gadegsi roared.
“I haven’t seen such an arrogant fellow in a long time!” the man laughed. “Listen well: I am the Windstorm Knight, one of the strongest dragonkin aberrations!”
“The strongest, you say?” Flames erupted around Gadegsi’s body. The battle axe in his hand, Zhurong, blazed with red light. “Then all I need to do is cut you down!”
As soon as he spoke, Zhurong transformed into three burning wheels of fire, smashing toward the Windstorm Knight and the dragon.
Flying Fire Meteor!
Where it passed, not a scrap of hide remained.
“Blind and clueless!” the Windstorm Knight shouted. The dragon soared upward, twisting aside to evade Flying Fire Meteor!
“Return!” Gadegsi swept a hand. The Flying Fire Meteor that had reached its end arced back again, slicing toward the Windstorm Knight and the dragon.
“Hahahahaha, that kind of move again!” the Windstorm Knight laughed as he sent the dragon plummeting straight toward the ground, dragging the flaming wheels along with it.
“No good! He’s drawing the fire wheels over here!” Orange realized at once. “Everyone, move aside!”
“Hahahahaha, caught you off guard, didn’t I!”
The Windstorm Knight rode the dragon past the crowd, and Flying Fire Meteor followed as well. Everyone cried out and scattered in panic.
At that very moment, Gadegsi leapt skyward, springing above the dragon as he raised Zhurong and cleaved downward. The three Flying Fire Meteors charging from the ground all turned into scarlet afterimages and converged on his battle axe.
The Windstorm Knight raised his spear to block. Fierce currents surged upward, and the two weapons danced and clashed in midair, bursting with a powerful aura and fierce sparks.
“Interesting! You’re pretty strong!” The Windstorm Knight smiled and thrust his spear at Gadegsi, but the other blocked it with Zhurong. Their weapons once again ground against each other violently, wind and fire colliding in elemental fury.
“Of course I am! After all, I am—”
The fire elemental power in Gadegsi’s hands intensified. Zhurong transformed into an even larger battle axe, and the air around them instantly turned restless.
“The strongest of Crimson Moon Academy!”
Gadegsi roared, unleashing Heaven-Splitting Divine Axe and cleaving toward the Windstorm Knight and the dragon.
Seeing this, the Windstorm Knight hurried to retreat, but the attack range was far too great. It severed his right arm together with the dragon’s wing!
Roar—
The dragon let out a pained bellow as well, fierce currents spiraling around its body.
“You still want to fight back? One more strike!”
Gadegsi swung Zhurong again. The fire elemental power burned even more violently, and the earlier Heaven-Splitting Divine Axe was repeated without change—
“You really think you’re that strong?” the one-armed Windstorm Knight said with a smile.
Boom—
Gadegsi hesitated for a moment, then continued his release. The dragon’s head was severed in the next instant, blood and dust swirling together in the air.
“Not strong enough? What a joke!”
Gadegsi dragged Zhurong as he walked up to the one-armed Windstorm Knight, but the other’s expression showed no fear at all; instead, it carried mocking amusement.
“Look around you!”
“Hm?” Gadegsi looked about, and suddenly froze.
Everyone else from Crimson Moon Academy was gone.
Even if the earlier fight had been fierce and everyone had withdrawn to a distance, this was still far too absurd. There was not a single person within several miles.
Too eerie.
“Didn’t expect that, did you? Hahahahaha!” the Windstorm Knight cackled madly. “This is the secret of Twin Moon Dragon City! The moment you stormed through the gate, you fell into our trap—The Moon God’s Curse!”
“No matter how strong you are, once you step into this cursed domain, there’s no way out! We’ll wear you down to death in this endless cycle of the moon waxing and waning!” The Windstorm Knight wore a vile grin.
“Everyone, will die!”
