[Reboot Volume] Chapter 224: The Case Is Solved!
“What? The leader... the leader of the Dark Sect?” Mo Xing’s face was filled with shock.
“Please continue,” Chairman Zhang said calmly. Mo Xing glanced back and noticed that his expression was composed, without a trace of emotion.
“Oh? I want to ask something off-topic first. Chairman Zhang, you could have killed me outright—why spare my life?” Li Qingchi smiled lightly.
“Because I want to hear your story,” Chairman Zhang replied with a faint smile.
“Ha!” Mo Xing couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
“What kind of reason is that?” Li Qingchi chuckled. “Aren’t you afraid that once I recover, I’ll attack you? Or that members of other sects might come to rescue me?”
“No worries, all within my control. And rest assured, your comrades won’t be coming,” Chairman Zhang assured him.
“Why do you say that?” Li Qingchi asked, puzzled.
“It’s 11:36 p.m. now,” Chairman Zhang glanced at his watch. “Your comrades were all captured half an hour ago. In five minutes, the campus security squad will arrive here to arrest you.”
“Four minutes and fifty-five seconds remaining—please finish your story,” Chairman Zhang smiled. “We are listening attentively.”
Mo Xing looked at Chairman Zhang beside him, feeling as if he were in a crime thriller. This man was incredibly formidable, as if everything was under his complete control—a Han Xin commanding troops, a Zhuge Liang arranging formations! The villains were spinning helplessly!
“Haha, interesting,” Li Qingchi laughed. “I never thought the day would come when I, Li Mo Ren, would be in such a situation!”
“Then I shall continue. The leader of the Dark Sect saved me and invited me to join them. At that time, I mainly wanted to survive, so I nodded in agreement.”
“He smiled, traced a circle on my forehead with his finger, and a powerful force surged into my body. Then I lost consciousness. When I awoke, I found myself back in the cellar, lying on a pile of hay, while my companions beside me were all snoring.”
“Sounds like a dream...” Mo Xing suddenly said.
“Yes, I thought so too at the time,” Li Qingchi continued. “I got out of bed, went to the sealed passage, and spent some time prying the door open. When I crawled out, the scene outside was exactly the same as in my dream!”
“Exactly the same?” Mo Xing asked in surprise.
“Yes, I was quite confused then,” Li Qingchi frowned. “So I ran all the way to that small hill and finally saw my family. I waved and shouted to them, but they turned their heads with terrified expressions, urging me to run. Then they were blasted away by the alien invaders. The sect leader appeared again to save me and wiped out those aliens.”
“He said to me, ‘See that power? If you join us, you can pursue ultimate power.’ I was sweating cold because everything was identical to the dream! Terrified, I agreed! Then he traced another circle on my forehead, and I lost consciousness again. When I woke, I was back in the cellar.”
“Oh my God...” Mo Xing was shocked. It was like a game constantly restarting, each time logging in to find himself back in the beginner village, level one again, needing to fight monsters and defeat dungeon bosses all over.
No save files—just starting over!
“I kept witnessing brutal battlefields, the disappearance of my loved ones, and returning to that cellar. The cycle repeated thirteen times! I was on the verge of collapse! Finally, the last time, he asked me if I would join them. I cried out, ‘No! I want to go back!’”
“He wore a half-mask, so I couldn’t see his eyes, only his lips. He was silent for a moment, then smiled faintly and said, ‘One day, we will meet again.’” Li Qingchi paused.
“Then everything went black, and I was back in the cellar. I thought it was another cycle, but the scene changed to morning. Sunlight streamed through the ventilation shaft, and my companions had all gotten up. Some were playing, some chatting, others eating breakfast—those not-so-fresh little buns. I realized this time I had truly awakened.”
“At that moment, a companion ran over and announced that the Saint Sky Guardian Squad had arrived! Everyone was excited and hurried to pry open the passage door. Later, the Guardian Squad quelled the chaos and reached an agreement with the aliens, restoring vitality to Twin Moon Cliff.”
“So… what does that have to do with you joining the Dark Sect?” Mo Xing asked, puzzled.
“I was not satisfied with that agreement!” Li Qingchi suddenly shouted. “The aliens suffered fifty thousand casualties, while we at Twin Moon Cliff lost over three hundred thousand! Including my family! Why should we live in peace with them? Why divide territory for them? It was an unequal treaty!”
“Later, I found the answer: the aliens were strong, so they held the initiative! At that moment, I finally understood—”
“Power is the true path to rule!”
Li Qingchi suddenly laughed aloud. Mo Xing felt a chill and goosebumps along his skin listening to the strange, bitter laughter. Chairman Zhang rested his chin on his hand, deep in thought.
“Therefore, I sought out the Dark Sect and joined them, all to pursue that ultimate power! Only by becoming stronger could I avenge my family and homeland destroyed by those damned aliens!”
*Clap clap—*
Mo Xing turned to see Chairman Zhang standing and applauding.
“Thank you for your magnificent speech. The story is excellent, and time is nearly up,” Chairman Zhang nodded.
“Now, I hand this over to the campus security squad.”
*Tat tat tat tat—*
Footsteps sounded nearby.
*Tat tat tat—*
Mo Xing heard the steady march and turned to see a row of soldiers running briskly, their movements sharp and their chants loud.
“Report, officer! Target spotted! Awaiting orders!” the lead soldier shouted.
Mo Xing thought to himself, this scene felt completely natural. If they wore stylish camouflage uniforms, he might have thought he was at a grand military parade!
From the crowd emerged a towering figure, about six feet tall, wearing a black military cap. His eyes behind dark sunglasses were sharp as lightning. His muscular physique was apparent beneath his clothes. The formidable man swept a commanding gaze over the scene, lips moving slightly.
“Detain the suspect on the ground,” he ordered sternly.
“Yes, sir!” the other soldiers responded, rushing to surround Li Qingchi.
The man approached Mo Xing and Chairman Zhang, removed his sunglasses, and a smile appeared on his serious face.
“Chairman Zhang, long time no see!” he greeted politely, extending a hand.
“Captain Huo, long time no see,” Chairman Zhang replied, shaking his hand.
“And young man beside you, may I ask your name?” he asked, offering his other hand.
“Ah… I’m Mo Xing. Nice to meet you!” Mo Xing quickly shook his hand.
“Mo Xing… That name sounds familiar,” Captain Huo frowned, then suddenly exclaimed, “Oh, I remember! You’re that campus star, right? Heard so much about you!”
“Uh…” Mo Xing was speechless. Was he really that popular now?
“He played a key role in this operation, successfully defusing the crisis,” Chairman Zhang said.
“I see! Truly well-deserved!” Captain Huo grasped Mo Xing’s hands in both of his, his face full of admiration, as if saying, “You are the hero!”
“Not at all!” Mo Xing replied, thinking he hadn’t done anything outstanding. He was just a freshman who stumbled into the lab by accident and happened to restore the key fragment. How could he deserve such praise? Would they even award him a red banner with words like “Upholding Justice, Acting for Heaven”?
“Move out!”
Hearing the soldiers’ shout, Mo Xing snapped back to reality and saw Li Qingchi being carried away by several soldiers, his face showing defeat.
“Please allow me to say a few words,” Li Qingchi said with a bitter smile, head bowed.
“Enough talk! Move quickly!” one soldier shouted nearby.
“Let him speak,” Chairman Zhang suddenly said.
“Speak your mind,” Captain Huo nodded at Li Qingchi, granting permission.
“Chairman Zhang, I’ve always wondered how a second-year student like you became student council president. Now I understand—you possess not only great strength and outstanding leadership but also a sharp mind. You truly are the perfect choice for president!”
Mo Xing looked at Chairman Zhang in surprise. This strange man was the student council president! No wonder everyone kept calling him “Chairman”! He thought it was some club leader, but now he knew!
“Thank you for the compliment,” Chairman Zhang replied, though his face showed no joy or pride.
“And Mo Xing, you really are a rare talent. From your zero-level ability test to your perfect comeback in the freshman assessment and the restoration of the key.”
“Uh… I’m not that good, just lucky,” Mo Xing explained.
“I originally planned to use mutated little bugs to torment you slowly, but I missed a step,” Li Qingchi shook his head. “I didn’t expect Chairman Zhang to intervene and save you.”
“Actually, you had the chance to kill me before. Why did you spare my life?” Mo Xing asked.
“Because at that moment, I hesitated,” Li Qingchi sighed. “Suddenly, I thought of my sister.”
“Your sister?” Mo Xing was confused—what did he have to do with Li Qingchi’s sister?
“Mo Xing, you have many fans, and my sister is one of them. She’s been talking about you these days, saying how amazing and inspiring you are, always bringing hope to others,” Li Qingchi smiled. “She even likes to hold newspapers and tell me your stories.”
“Oh… I see,” Mo Xing paused, surprised that Li Qingchi’s sister was his fan.
“Last Friday afternoon, I went to watch your combat training. You really are excellent. At that time, I wanted to invite you to join the singer team so that whenever my sister came looking for me at the band, she could see you,” Li Qingchi said bitterly. “I wanted to help my sister fulfill her idol dream.”
“But you joined the Dark Sect and got involved in those forbidden drug experiments. That beautiful dream shattered,” Captain Huo suddenly remarked.
“Like a bubble—beautiful yet fragile, vanishing at the slightest touch of a boundary,” Chairman Zhang said.
“Quite poetic,” Li Qingchi smiled bitterly. “Enough talk—take me to where I need to go.”
