Surveillance
With the food delivery station now closed, Lin Qi no longer needed to wait three more days. He called Song Qingzhu and said he would report for duty the next day. Song Qingzhu agreed.
That evening, Lin Qi cooked several dishes and waited for Luo Feifei to come home so they could eat together. Because of their work schedules, it had usually been Luo Feifei doing the cooking, but tonight was Lin Qi’s turn to show his skills. However, he waited and waited—until after ten o’clock at night—before Luo Feifei finally returned, looking utterly exhausted.
“Why are you back so late?” Lin Qi asked, surprised.
“Overtime… I got stuck with a nitpicking man, he drove me crazy,” Luo Feifei replied helplessly. She set her bag by the door, changed her shoes, and came in.
Lin Qi reheated the dishes and asked her what had happened. Every night, the two of them would talk about work—mainly because, aside from work, there wasn’t much else to discuss.
So Luo Feifei began to explain. The project she was in charge of was led by several managers responsible for business partnerships and involved collaboration with a branch of Jinyang Group. The two corporations had always been competitors, so working together was anything but smooth—conflicts erupted constantly, and meetings often devolved into arguments.
“That’s strange, wasn’t that Manager Wei quite nice to you last time?” Lin Qi asked, puzzled.
“He is nice, but there are managers above us! I report to Manager Bu, and he reports to Manager Zhan. Brother-in-law, let me tell you, this Manager Zhan is unbelievably picky. Even though the design plan was supposed to be ours, he questions everything—this isn’t right, that isn’t suitable, always finding faults with my proposal. It’s delayed so much progress. It’s infuriating. If murder weren’t illegal, I’d have strangled him myself!”
It took a lot for someone as kind as Luo Feifei to lose her temper, so Manager Zhan must truly be difficult.
Lin Qi said darkly, “Want me to kill him for you?”
Luo Feifei jolted. “Brother-in-law, don’t even think about it!”
Lin Qi chuckled, “I’m just kidding. Take it slow, don’t rush things.” He had no intention of interfering; Luo Feifei needed this experience. Besides, there was nothing he could do—soon he’d become Song Qingzhu’s bodyguard and driver, and it wasn’t as if he could meddle with a branch manager at Jinyang Group.
“I know, I’ll handle it!” Luo Feifei said, clenching her little fist.
The next day.
Outside the Jinyang Group building.
Lin Qi didn’t drive the black Mercedes. The security guard stopped him at the entrance. So Lin Qi made a call.
Soon, Secretary Zhou hurried over. “Mr. Lin, President Song has been waiting for you,” she said with a smile, leading him upstairs.
It was the same spacious office. Lin Qi saw Song Qingzhu sitting upright behind the enormous desk. Though only in her early twenties, she already exuded the presence and authority of a true executive.
Maintaining his “carefree” persona, Lin Qi strode in and flopped onto the sofa, crossing one leg over the other.
Song Qingzhu glanced at him. “From today on, you’re my bodyguard and driver. I expect you to keep up appearances at least—stand properly when you’re standing, and sit properly when you’re sitting.”
“Alright.” Lin Qi immediately straightened his posture and placed both feet on the floor.
He was still wearing the suit from the night before, and with his sudden seriousness, he looked quite dashing. His angular features radiated a masculine charm.
Secretly, Song Qingzhu nodded to herself. No wonder Tang Long had sent him in as an undercover agent—he was certainly a rare talent.
“There are security guards downstairs, so there’s usually nothing to worry about,” Song Qingzhu continued. “You’ll wait outside my office. If you get tired, you can rest in the office across the hall. You can wander around a bit if you like, but you mustn’t leave the building. If you need to go out, you must get my permission. And whenever I leave, you’re to follow me immediately.”
“Got it.” Lin Qi stood up and left.
Now only Song Qingzhu and Secretary Zhou remained in the office.
“Keep an eye on him. I want to know exactly what he does in the building,” Song Qingzhu said, her expression suddenly turning severe.
“Yes,” Secretary Zhou replied, lowering her head slightly.
Outside, Lin Qi stood around for a while, bored, then wandered into the office across the hall and drank a few cups of tea. Eventually, unable to bear the monotony, he began to roam the various floors.
The last time, he’d intended to explore and look for any clues about “those from the capital,” but he’d been interrupted by Luo Feifei’s situation.
“Which floor did I get to last time…? Ah, here it is.”
Arriving at one of the branch offices, Lin Qi’s eyes scanned the area like a radar. He didn’t spare any department, not even the restrooms or storage rooms.
He didn’t realize that, in a certain monitoring room, Secretary Zhou was watching his every move.
Seeing Lin Qi’s suspicious behavior, Secretary Zhou couldn’t help but sigh.
“So he really is Tang Long’s undercover agent.”
“President Song may be young, but her insight is as sharp as a blade.”
“As long as we keep a close watch on him and feed him false information at the right time, we could bring down the entire Longyue Group…”
A sly smile curled at the corner of Secretary Zhou’s mouth.
