046 Beaten Again
On the hillside, it took great effort to finally calm Sun Xiaoyun’s tears.
“Go home first and wait for my news.”
Lin Qi sent Sun Xiaoyun back home, then returned to his own house. Upon arrival, he noticed Luo Feifei wasn’t there and called her.
“Brother-in-law, are you alright?” Luo Feifei’s voice brimmed with delight when she answered.
“Yes, I’ve just got home. Where are you?”
“Our manager was assaulted—I just brought him to the hospital!”
Luo Feifei quickly recounted what had happened. “Those two men, whoever they were, just rushed in and beat up our manager!” she said hurriedly. “Brother-in-law, as long as you’re okay, I’ll handle the hospital paperwork first!”
Lin Qi didn’t think much of it, assuming it was merely an accident. He urged Luo Feifei to go home early and hung up.
Next, he called Tang Long.
“You’re out, young master?” Tang Long asked respectfully.
“Yes, just arrived home,” Lin Qi replied.
Tang Long assumed Wei Qianzhong had intervened as expected and didn’t probe further. The incident was trivial in his eyes.
“How’s Fang Hai these days?” Lin Qi asked.
“He’s in the provincial capital, doing fairly well. Do you need something from him, young master?”
“Yes, have him call me.”
“Understood.”
Shortly after, Fang Hai called.
“Long time no see, young master,” came a voice full of deference.
After a few brief pleasantries, Lin Qi got straight to the point.
“Fang Hai, you’re in the provincial capital? Help me look into someone.”
Lin Qi explained the situation concerning Sun Xiaoyun’s father.
Five minutes later, the phone rang again.
The matter was clear. Sun Xiaoyun’s father was indeed detained under double regulations, his case still under review.
“In general, he’s honest, but he’s made some mistakes—you know how it is in officialdom, sometimes circumstances are beyond one’s control. In short, his rivals caught hold of something, and this time, he’s in grave danger. Eight or nine chances out of ten, it’ll be a death sentence.”
“Is there any way to save him?”
“There is.”
“Good. Save him.”
“Understood.”
Fang Hai hung up without another word.
The young master’s command consisted of two words: execute.
That night, Luo Feifei returned home very late.
“You scared me to death, brother-in-law—I thought something really happened to you!” Luo Feifei threw herself into Lin Qi’s arms upon entering, bouncing and laughing with joy.
“I told you I was fine…” Lin Qi smiled, ruffling her hair. “How’s your manager?”
“Our manager’s in terrible shape—three broken ribs, a severe concussion, still unconscious. I’ll make some soup for him tomorrow morning and bring it over… After all, he was trying to help you,” Luo Feifei sighed.
“Really unlucky,” Lin Qi clicked his tongue. “From now on, if something like this happens again, don’t worry about me. I can handle it myself. Now, get some sleep.”
The next morning, Luo Feifei made breakfast for Lin Qi, then prepared soup and packed it in a thermal container, hurrying off to the hospital.
In the ward.
After a night’s rest, Manager Wang had woken up.
But his head and body were wrapped in thick bandages; even the slightest movement was difficult.
“Manager Wang, I’m really sorry about yesterday. My brother-in-law is fine now, but you ended up suffering…” Luo Feifei stood by the bed with guilt, placing the soup container on the bedside table. “I’ll ask the nurse to feed you later—I have to rush to work.”
She ladled out the soup and got the spoon ready.
Manager Wang painfully turned his head, catching a glimpse of Luo Feifei’s slender waist.
Youth, temptation.
Even with wounds all over his body, his lust flared.
He swallowed hard, struggling to raise his hand, wanting to touch her.
But just then, the ward door was suddenly kicked open.
Two men in black burst in like arrows.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Slap! Slap! Slap!
They grabbed Manager Wang and pummeled him, at times smashing him against the ceiling, at others kicking him under the bed.
“Ah!” Luo Feifei screamed, truly terrified.
The two men in black came and went in a flash.
After finishing their beating, they disappeared swiftly.
The ward was in chaos—the bedside table overturned, soup spilled everywhere.
Manager Wang lay on the floor, half dead.
“Manager Wang, are you alright? Doctor! Doctor!” Luo Feifei rushed over.
Manager Wang spat out several mouthfuls of blood.
Doctors quickly rushed in.
Saving him, alerting the police—it all happened in one breath.
The bandages on Manager Wang were thickened several layers; he lay unconscious on the bed.
Special security arrived promptly to investigate.
But reviewing the surveillance yielded nothing.
The two men in black moved extremely fast, appearing and disappearing like ghosts; their faces couldn’t be seen at all.
Instead, Luo Feifei witnessed Manager Wang’s hand reaching out, ready to grope her waist.
“Pervert!”
Furious, Luo Feifei slapped Manager Wang’s unconscious face.
