Chapter 129: The Peerless Harbinger of Disaster
The entire scene fell into a deathly silence. Such a spectacle was truly as bizarre as it could possibly be.
In the end, it was Li Sichen who spoke, breaking the oppressive atmosphere. He smiled at the young police officer standing before him, who was currently dumbstruck, and voluntarily held out his hands. "Aren't you going to cuff me? Go ahead."
When Li Sichen smiled, two small dimples appeared on his cheeks, making him look exceptionally adorable. Many women in the crowd, regardless of their age, were dazzled by his charming smile at that moment, with exclamations of "So handsome!" and "How cute!" breaking out here and there.
However, the young officer standing in front of Li Sichen could not help but shiver.
"I’d love to cuff you, but aren't you just a bit too ominous? The manager of that KTV just mocked you a few times and then suffered one misfortune after another. If I cuff you, wouldn't I end up with terrible luck, too? Subjected to all sorts of freak accidents?"
The young officer looked at Li Sichen, then at the handcuffs in his hand. He didn't have the courage to make a move, only inwardly lamenting his situation. Although it couldn't be confirmed yet that Cheng Peng’s miserable fate was truly linked to Li Sichen's "jinxed mouth," what if it were true? The young officer had no desire to follow in Cheng Peng’s footsteps.
His hesitation greatly annoyed Wang Guotao, who immediately barked, "Xiao Liu, what are you spacing out for? Hurry up and cuff him so we can take him back to the station!"
Looking at the smiling Li Sichen, the young officer ultimately failed to summon the courage to apply the cuffs. He could only turn back to Wang Guotao with a bitter expression and say, "Um, Chief, how about we don't cuff him?"
Wang Guotao was instantly incensed. He strode over to the young officer, snatched the handcuffs away, and cursed, "You're truly useless. You don't even dare to cuff someone; what kind of police officer are you? Get out of the way, let me do it!"
Having been scolded, the young officer dared not talk back or get angry, so he retreated to the side, looking dejected.
"Kid, don't think that because you guessed a few harsh words right that you can play these supernatural tricks. Such parlor games might scare ordinary people, but they can't fool me. I’ve seen more con artists than you’ve eaten grains of salt! A jinxed mouth, is it? Come on then, I’d like to see if your jinx can work on me even once!"
Wang Guotao didn't believe for a second that Li Sichen had any supernatural jinxing ability, let alone anything related to curses. He grabbed Li Sichen’s outstretched hands and 'snap!'—the silver handcuffs were locked on.
Boom!
Just as the cuffs locked around Li Sichen's wrists, a sudden explosion erupted from the fire!
The blast was intense, causing the ground to shake and throwing debris out from the sea of flames. Among the flying objects was a burning microphone. It traced a beautiful arc through the night sky and, to the shock and disbelief of the onlookers, struck Wang Guotao with pinpoint accuracy.
Bang!
Wang Guotao’s head was hit by the flaming microphone, instantly opening a gash from which blood began to pour. At the same time, the flames on the microphone spread instantly, igniting the hair on his head with a fierce blaze. In the blink of an eye, Wang Guotao had turned into a human candle.
"Holy crap!"
The sudden turn of events terrified the young officer, who scrambled backward. He then began to howl incoherently: "Bad luck! It’s really bad luck! I knew this kid wasn't simple. Whoever touches him gets hit with bad luck. It’s true, it’s absolutely true!" He felt fortunate that he hadn't been the one to cuff Li Sichen, or else it would have been him, not Wang Guotao, bleeding and acting as a human candle.
"Ah... help! My head, my head is going to be scorched! Quick, get some water to put out this damn fire!" Wang Guotao finally snapped out of his shock, wailing in pain and calling for help. Several officers and firefighters rushed over, frantically extinguishing the flames on his head. Even so, his hair had been completely burned off, emitting a pungent, nauseating smell of charred flesh.
The surrounding crowd was in an uproar, whispering and exclaiming:
"This is just not scientific! That officer just cuffed the student, and then an explosion happens in the fire, and he gets hit by debris flying out... damn, can it really be that coincidental? It’s giving me goosebumps. Tell me, are we really not filming a horror movie like Final Destination?"
"It’s a curse! This has to be a curse! Otherwise, how else do you explain this string of bizarre, unlucky events?"
"Heaven help us, this student is a disaster magnet! Whoever offends him gets hit with bad luck! Buddy, why are you so lucky? Are you the illegitimate child of God or something? Oh, honey, come out and look at God with me!"
"In my opinion, these seemingly coincidental unlucky events actually reveal one thing—that this student has been framed! Otherwise, why is it that only those who target him are the ones suffering? This is all because Heaven couldn't stand by and watch these people slander a hero, so it sent down punishment. As the saying goes, Heaven is watching what men do!"
All sorts of guesses and theories emerged. Some were plausible, while others were wildly imaginative.
After receiving basic medical treatment and bandaging, Wang Guotao, with a massive wad of gauze on his head, charged at Li Sichen once more, roaring in rage, "You have a lot of nerve! How dare you attack an officer and injure me!"
As the saying goes, the person involved is often the most confused. Wang Guotao hadn't clearly seen what had hit him and assumed it was Li Sichen who had injured him.
"Attack an officer?" Li Sichen couldn't help but laugh. "Please, the thing that smashed your head was a microphone flying out of the fire. What does that have to do with me? You’re a police chief; don't you have any brains at all?"
"A microphone flying out of a fire hit me? Do you really think I’d believe such an outrageous lie?" Wang Guotao was convinced Li Sichen was playing him for a fool. To be injured and then mocked was an insult he couldn't endure. He was so blinded by rage that he didn't stop to think, raising his fist to strike at Li Sichen.
"Look out!"
Seeing this, many women in the crowd who were fond of Li Sichen grew anxious. In their eyes, the slender Li Sichen couldn't possibly withstand Wang Guotao, especially since his hands were cuffed and he couldn't move freely. However, the way things unfolded was completely different from what they had imagined.
